With GCCF its probably something to do with the committee meetings, and the fact that everything has to be published on printed paper and given airing time for people to come back with their feedback. Some governing bodies have online access to information you need to know about - such as those prefixes already listed so you can see straight away and don't pick them plus email / e-pay systems so things go thru quickly.

It will be worth waiting for
 They publish them in Our Cats to give other breeders a chance to contest it if they feel that a proposed prefix is too close or sounds too similar to theirs, which is fair. I think TICA just have a rule about being at least 2 letters different from an existing prefix.
