Re: Desperately seeking help!

I agree, take some time off, yes cats do most themselves, but not always. If I had'nt been at the birth of my last 2 litters I would of most certainly had dead kittens and possibly Queen!! Luckily I was there to rush mam to the vets Better to be safe than sorry I always say

Re: Desperately seeking help!

The only thing with taking time off, is that as many of you that have had kittens (or rather your cats have had kittens) will know that unless you were there when they mated it is very hard to know the exact due date.

I'm sure those of you that work full time will appreciate vacation leave is on a limited supply and to make sure you are there you will need to book alot of time off around the expected date. If that is possible for you, then thats great.

If not you could do what I did, aks someone to pop in when you are at work and ask them to watch out for the key signs. Then if it happens to be when you are at work, you can pre-warn your boss that you may need to dispear at short notice... or sneak off sick...

by about 3 days before the birth my mum was popping in every 3 hours to check.

Re: Desperately seeking help!

If I had been at work full time - which luckily I wasn't I would have called in sick I guess. You can't know the exact date but it starts to become more obvious things are happening - though I prob would've ended off a week!
It was so exciting and I wouldn't have missed it for the world! Plus I was up the small hours most nights watching her and I know most the other's have been the same. Breeder or not
I was terrified of what might happen if I wasn't there as complications may be rare but they do happen!

Re: Desperately seeking help!

I'm quite aware about dates ect, but Becky did ask if she should take time off ? We have suggested yes.

Becky, about the worming question, ask your vet for panacur paste, it's safe to give a pregnant cat, as a one off dose before having the kittens

Red face Re: Desperately seeking help!

Yes I know I really want to be there but my boss can be quite awkward - think I'll wait for my vets appointment in 10 days - hopefully she'll be able to give me a more accurate date and I'll have to play it by ear. I will keep feeding her lots to as shes a bit crazed with it at the moment, I wasn't sure if this was because she was stray and therefore had become obsessed with food! I think it's best to feed her up coz she probably needs it anyway

Re: Desperately seeking help!

Becky see if you can place your hand very lightly on the sides of her tummy and feel like a ripple/s-not her breathing rhythm but any movements,or if not watch her and see if you can see any movements-this will indicate she's at least 6/7 wks goneAlso if she will eat try her on some raw red meat ie beef,as this will be great for her and kitts

Re: Desperately seeking help!

I have a funny feeling I will be setting my alarm in the middle of the night to check her and working long days so I can pop back on my lunch too! This wasn't what I expected but I have to look after her - she's so sweet!
