Re: Can anyone tell me what colour type my kitten is?

Have you got a better picture - I would be inclined to say red but very light. Wendy will know
So sorry to hear about Mother what a terrible story!!

Maybe that breeder needs to think carefully about whether to keep those dogs or breed anymore??

Re: Can anyone tell me what colour type my kitten is?

I would echo Emily's reply since it appears the breeder could not tell you the correct colour ... I have a Coonie myself but do not breed them.

From the photo (which could be tricky since the light is very strong behind him) it appears to me to be either red or apricot but not sure if Coonies come in apricot colour.

You don't get Apricot Coonies! He looks like a Red Tabby to me, could be silver but you can't tell off a pic i'm afraid . Unless you have a better pic, can't tell you the tabby pattern though. The breeder should of told you his colour and should know you don't get Apricots Where are you getting him from by the way, is he registered ect ?

Re: Can anyone tell me what colour type my kitten is?

Bit more investigation on my part and believe she is a red silver - esp as you say Dad is a silver.

This one is called a Red Silver (Cameo) classic tabby...
A very beautiful cat as is yours

Re: Can anyone tell me what colour type my kitten is?

To be truthful to you, i'd be very worried that she does'nt even know her colours. Also the fact that her dog killed the mother I take it then she is'nt registered ect. There are unregistered breeders out there that do know what they are doing, but I think sadly this lady does'nt. Please don't think i'm having a go at you. Just going from your post and it has me worried. Does the kitten have weepy eyes too ? the one looks sore to me

Re: Can anyone tell me what colour type my kitten is?

I know you have fallen in love with your baby and I am not trying in any way to put you off her. But the breeder does not sound great and if this is an unregistered cat I hope the price you're paying reflects this and you are not paying the same as you could get a fully registered pedigree for.
Because if you have not seen the mum and there are no papers there is no guarantee this is a full Maine Coon. If it is registered I am under the belief the colour would need to be on the papers

Best of Luck with your new cat

Holly - good luck with this kitten. Crossing fingers that when you get back you can post us some happy kitten pictures of your new baby safely in your own home.

Re: Can anyone tell me what colour type my kitten is?

Yes, Em, if they are registered, then the colour will be on the papers, as would the Date of birth, Parents, Grandparents, G.Ggranparents ect.
That is the problem too, it is possible he is'nt a proper Maine Coon.

Quote:
He is not registered. The mother was a pedigree but she did not have papers for the father
So they are just unregistered cats then. Being a pedigree does'nt mean it's registered i'm affraid.

As Em says, just hope you are not paying hundreds for the kitten. I' still worried she does'nt even seem to know his colour. He could be Silver, but it's no guarantee, just cause his dad is.
I have a litter of 6 here, both parents are Silver, but only 2 of the kittens are.

Quote:
Don't worry it is the cat i wanted and not specifically his breed. Yes his price does reflect his lack of registration etc etc. His eyes were fine, I can see what you mean but i am rubbish at taking photos and the light is not in the right position and makes him look squinty!!
Hope you enjoy him, when you get him Holly. It's nothing against you. I just worry about people who breed for the sake of it and it's the poor unsuspecting public that suffer, from lack of information because the breeder does'nt have the knowledge
