Advice re a stray cat

hello everyone

This is my first time posting on this forum !

Basically I'm looking for some advice from people that really know cats.

I've started feeding a cat in the last two weeks , who is a stray. He was really thin and very nervous (would run if I so much as looked at him). He's now filled out and is letting me pat his head etc.
I'd really like to hold onto him as he's stolen my heart

basically I will have to keep him as an outdoor cat as a family member who visits regularly has allergies to cats.

Can anyone recommend a good outdoor cat house? I'm living in Ireland so it would have to be pretty durable against dampness ! I've been looking online and have seen KatKabins, I'm not sure they're quite what I'm looking for

Also , any ideas how I can get the cat into a carrier to take him to the vet to get him neutred / checked out . I doubt he'll let me pick him up !!

Thanks !!!

Re: Advice re a stray cat

Hi

Thanks for the advice. His trust is building every day so hopefully I can get him to the vet ok.

I should be moving house next year and will hopefully bring the cat with me, and allow him into the house ( as the family member wouldn't be staying with me) . I just hope he'll stick with me as an outdoor cat until then , that he won't get a better offer over the winter of being allowed into a neighbours house and decide to move in there !!!!

You just make sure that your treats/food and snugs are the best on the block-he'll not forget you in a hurry, remember cats are natural born masters at training human slaves and he's thankfully doing just dandy with you-love it

Re: Advice re a stray cat

Hi to another person from this Emerald Isle and another cat lover

Do you know anyone handy?? You could always decide on a design and ask someone local to make it up - usually a good option and not too expensive. Or you could buy a small garden shed and put a cat flap and bed in etc.
If you did want to ensure he stayed you could always build a run too

Good Luck

Lol. What about trying, sardines or pilchards in tomato sauce, cats usually love those

Re: Advice re a stray cat

Thanks for all the advice !

Well I'm not sure now what to do with this little cat !

I've been accepted into a course in England which means I'll be moving there in September for 10 months !

I'm living with my parents at the moment and was hoping they'd look after him while I'm away and I'll take him next year.

But I was away at the weekend and the cat came into the house on Sataurday through a window and was in the kitchen rooting through the bin even though he'd been fed brekkie and lunch !! (You can take the cat from the alley .... etc !!! )

So my mother wasn't too impressed as my sister is allergic to cats .

Am not sure what to do with him now . I was thinking of bringing him to a rescue centre who should be able to get him rehomed but I'm wondering if there is a neighbour feeding him also as he hardly turned up at all yesterday for food ...

I'm not sure there is anyone actually taking responsiblity for him though , hard to know what to do . My parents are happy enough to keep feeding him but he'll have to stay outdoors !
