Advice...please!

I all, hope everyone is well and their fur babies too x

I went to the vet today with one of my girls for her booster jabs and was chatting to vet about our forthcoming new arrival and he is completely freaked me out!! I told him we were awaiting the arrival of a Bengal girl in a month or so and he just looked at me in total surprise and said, oh right?, will she be living with this little lady then? (my raggie baby) and I said yes she would be and he said he didnt think it a great idea as the 2 breeds are not considerably compatible and left me feeling totally insecure and wondering if I am doing the right thing at all? Any advice, please be totally honest!, would really be gratefully received! x

Re: Advice...please!

Hi tinks-dunno about either of these breeds though their profiles do seem complete opposites from what i've read, but their are people who breed and slave to both so they'll be better equipped to advise you

Re: Advice...please!

The two breeds are quite different in nature, but I am sure that would not stop me getting one if I had my heart set on it. Bengals are just a bit more boisterous, that's all. Your Raggie is more like Persians laid back and lazy. I'd say go for it if its what you really want but the two cats may not be the best of buds.

Re: Advice...please!

yeh the only thing being that the Ragdolls are so laid back and Bengals are very active and may get a little fustrated with the Raggie..

But if you have other breeds in your household also that are more active then the Bengal will probably play with them instead. But I dont see it being a major problem if you're having them both from babies?

What other breeds do you have?

Re: Advice...please!

Surely an individual cat's temperament must be a factor as well though. Different breeds do have different traits but i think it would be hard to say one breed cannot live with another without it being tested. There are always quirky personalities etc and I couldn't see why the two wouldn't get on even if they just tolerate each other. I have a persian cross who is very quiet and a bit shy and Dexter my oriental cross I think is manic and she generally puts him in his place, avoids him or chases him depending on her mood, and they are chalk and cheese!

On another note can you post some pics when you get your new kitten?

Re: Advice...please!

mmm difficult to say since I neither own nor breed either of these breeds. However, as LittleFluff says, the individual personalities are a factor to bear in mind. Also add your own interactions - you too will be included in how they relate to each other. Add any other cats in the mix and you have a wonderful kaleidoscope of possibilities ...

Even though, from what I read, the two breeds have very different characteristics, that doesn't necessarily rule out the two individual cats from living happily in your home.

Sending best purrs and hoping this goes well for you and the furbabes.

Re: Advice...please!

Yeh I think the main thing to bear in mind is that as you probably already know, Ragdolls dont tend to be very good at defending themselves.. so if a little fight does occur just make sure you're there to monitor them

Re: Advice...please!

I have a Bengal and a Tiffanie which is the same mixture however my bengal is an adult and my tiffanie is a kitten. The only issue you may have is the bengal kitten will be very playful and active. How old is your ragdoll? Is she playful? Bengals despite what people think can be pretty laid back, Betula can be a little monkey but also loves snuggling up on my lap and sleeping ontop of the tv!

Re: Advice...please!

I assume that you have run your situation past the Bengal breeder? What did the breeder say?

Breeders know their cats and can get a good take on a kitten's personality. Be led by the breeder.
