4 new kittens, 3 days old! any advise very welcome!

My cat Tash, has just given birth to 4 beautiful kittens, all girls, from what we can tell, last friday morning! she found a nice quite corner in the bedroom on top off a pair of shorts lol and when we woke up that morning there she was with all her kittens lined up all feeding on her, with her purring away! I couldnt see any afterbirth so i am sure she must have ate it, all the kittens were all cleaned up and looking very cute and very fluffy! I would be very grateful on any advise in looking after these kittens, and to be made aware of anything i should be looking out for with both mum and kittens.
Up to now Tash and her kittens seem very happy and healthy and all the kittens are putting on weight as we have been weighing them each night, just to makesure there all getting enough milk from mum.

Thanks 4 your reply! Well I hope I am doing everything well, I have never looked after newborn kitten's before! from what I have read they dont tend to open there eye's until there 5 to 8 days old, and even then there still blind, I am just taking every day has it comes, I am keeping a chart on there weight, just to keep a close eye of them, 2 of the kittens seem a lot more greedy than the other two, so we are just trying to make sure they all get the right amount of milk they all need! Mum cat is doing great, even tho she keeps trying to run off every now and then lol but she is being so good with them and she comes running back as soon as any of them make a noise or a crying sound!
Are them two pics of your cats?? there beautiful!!! How old are they???

Well the kittens should all put on approx 10g a day - don't think it matters at all if there is variation between biggest and littlest as long as they gain at a steady rate. You do not need to worry terribly unless one is acting weak and/or losing weight.

Up the top is North (black&White) who was 9yrs last year but sadly we lost him to the road - the tiny baby is Whistler -just rescued prob only about 6wks.
Down the bottom is North's sister Star who is 10 in Sept.

I also have another rescue cat Zelda who has 3, 3 wk kittens - pictures of which are in my album. We are keeping them all ...

I absolutely adore my cats - this is the first time I've had a litter, it was an accident but has been a completely delightful and amazing experience - the supprort on here has been amazing!!!

Re: 4 new kittens, 3 days old! any advise very welcome!

The weaning question was mine today - now I have been told at 3wks you can start leaving food down so they can have a look - which I have done but of course mum is eating it but they watch her so not such a bad thing.
I think between 4-6wks you start encouraging them to eat a little.

Mine have their eyes open (around a week) and their ears are almost up too.
They waddle around and fall alot and are beginning to show interest in one another and things around them.
They are just starting to play - swatting at one another and falling on top of each other a bit.
and sometimes try to groom themselves which is very funny........LOL

See Zelda's kittens - 3wks post - that's them

So u got your hands full then lol I use to be really scared of cats!! I got attached by my auntie wild cat in america when i was 15, it scared the life out of me, i didnt go near cats at all after that, until my son told me he really wanted a kitten!!! so I thought the only way to get over the fear i had was to get one! lol sound funny now, but it was rather scary for me at the time!! I have never looked back since! couldnt be without my cat now, love her to bits, she is a big part of the family!! and now with her kittens even more so!! keep trying to talk my hubby into letting me keep them all, not having much luck tho yet, but he did give in a bit and said i could keep one of them!! lol

Re: 4 new kittens, 3 days old! any advise very welcome!

Well it certainly worked then - I am always a little surprised that some people are scared of cats because mine have always been such softies so I forget some do bite and scratch
I suppose one is better than none - I only meant to be keeping one but I can't decide which one so keeping them all. Hubby keeps trying to wind me up about people coming to see them I've let myself become too attached now - there'll be war if he tries to give them away.........
