running water

Our latest member of our family Duchess, is very taken with the water tap in the bathrrom, or old boy Bug when he was a kitten would sit and play in the sink fopr hours "batting" the water, but this is different she seems to prefer to drink water coming from the tap than anything we put in a bowl for her, should i allow this to continue or put a stop to it now (its very funny if there is just a drop, you see her head follow the drip and the paws scrabble in the plug hole looking!)

Re: running water

My cats only like to drink running water or for some crazy reason water that has been sitting a while?
The running water is oxygenated and fresh of course - you can get a water fountain which you plug in and it circulates the water round for them to drink from all the time.
Think this is quite normal - and both mine enjoy swatting at it too. When I'm in the kitchen the moan at me to turn the tap on so I do - they have a little drink and then I turn it off again - as well as leaving stuff in their bowls.

I can't see any reason this shouldn't be encouraged really

I must try that - do they prefer it that way because it's cold or fresher?

Re: running water

My cats never drink any fresh water I give them, taps, put in bowls, they'll only drink it if it's left out for a bit, they seem to prefer drinking rainwater outside!

They will, if it's hot, drink fresh water that I put outside in a bowl for them, daft cats

Re: running water

My cat drinks from the tap sometimes but then plays with his water bowl. He then meows at me because he has not water left

Re: running water

My female cat wil only drink running water, she will not drink out of any bowl at all (although we have discovered she will drink water out of an eggcup if we've just put the water in it for her). So we just give her water whenever she follows us to the bathroom (she tells us when she want's a drink by jumping into the sink. It works, but if you are out working all day I can see how it could cause problems.

This is what I would reccommend....the Drinkwell Fountain. The water seems like running water to cats and it powered by electricity, so the cat can still get running water when you are not home
