New cat/cats

I am thinking about getting a new kitty or kittys not yet Tiger has only been gone for 2weeks , but I thinking of around august/september time , but I really don't know what I want and if to have 1 or 2 .Im really missing Tiger and I don't think he would mind if I have a new kitty , won't take the place of him but it would be lovely to have another around place is not the same , 2 would be great because they would have company but Im thinking one would want more contact because it hasn't a play mate , but then I might be just being selfish, Help would be greatlly received to help me decide what I am going to do

Re: New cat/cats

Hmmm, a big decision, lol. It depends on how long you would be leaving a kitten/cat. If you work and are going to be out a lot, then i'd say 2. If not then 1 or 2 it's up to you. You can't guarantee any cat being a lap or people cat really. You could get one and it not want to be picked up ect, or you could get 2 and both want to be on your lap, lol. I'm so sorry about Tiger, they leave such a hole in your life don't they
A couple who are having 2 of my kittens, are in the exact situation to you, they've not long lost their beloved moggy, thought they would like one kitten, but have now gone for 2 Not an easy desicision, just do whats in your heart

I'm sorry about Tiger. It's always so heartbreaking No kitten can ever replace Tiger as you know, but instead, a new kitten (or two) will have their own special place in your heart. I guess the thing is, in your situation, there is no rush to have to make any decisions so why not visit a few kittens that you like, follow your heart and see what happens? Two are best if the humans in your home are out at work all day.

Re: New cat/cats

Hello

I am sorry about Tiger too. I lost my cat in March and had the same sort of decision as you are going through now. I work and my OH works and children more or less flown the nest.

I did not think it fair to get a kitten or even 2 kittens because IMO I feel that young kittens are like children and need a human around most of the time.

I also IMO did not think it fair to leave even an older cat all alone for most of the day - so I got 2 adult cats and its worked a treat. I got them from the same breeder although they are not siblings. I told the breeder all my circumstances and she made sure that the adult cats were compatible and also would fit with my lifestyle. One had been a queen for her, and one was a returned kitten (no health problems) that she was particularly attached to but felt needed more attention than she could give him.

Yes, I did pay for them and I expected to. They are pedigree.

Its worked out really well. When my OH retires in a couple of years I want a kitten who has the same breeding lines as my old cat.

(For the breeders amongst you: the maine Coon under GCCF rules seems to be breed to a lower weight than the original MC from USA)
