Advice on Kittens
Hi,
My wife and i love cats. We have been considering getting a kitten for over a year now but for one reason or another haven't. Can anybody share their views about the followng converns we have. 1) Will it be okay to introduce a kitten to our home when we a 10 year old female cat. She is not aggressive at all by the way. 2) We both work full time, is this a problem? Do we need to consider 2 kittens. Initially until i am absolutely sure our cat will get on with the kittens i will seperate them in the house while we are at work. I would consider doing this for quite a while. 2 kittens would keep each other company but would they gang up on my older cat? If anyone has had any experience working full time and getting a kitten i would love to hear your views. Thanks Paul |

Re: Advice on Kittens
Hi. We've gotten two kittens whilst we've both been working full time. We got them both at different times (lottie was planned, as it were, but leo we rescued off a farm when he was half dead
) My other half had the luxury of coming home at lunchtimes for an hour to check on kitties and make sure everything was ok. Lottie, the older of the two put leo in his place very quickly, and he left her alone after that ![]() But... 2 kittens, twice the fun, I'm sure they'd be ok, once your girl shows them who's boss ![]()

Re: Advice on Kittens
I agree with everyone else in that 2 kittens would be better. Mainly because you are both out at work and the 2 kittens will be company for each other. Also because young kittens are extremely playful and your 10 year old may not appreciate being pounced on constantly by a young, energetic kitten. I doubt they would gang up on your older cat because right from the start, your older cat should make it quite clear that it is her home and she will put them in their place if they get out of hand.
Whatever you decide, best of luck with it ![]() |

Re: Advice on Kittens
Spoke to the RSPCA this morning.
They will not even consider letting 1 or 2 kittens go to a home where the owners work full time. Only a cat 6 months old would be considered. Maybe if we were both claiming benefits and not working we could get one :-) What do you think the next move should be. Where would be the best place to get one? Do other cat rescue places have the same policies? Or do we tell a porky that my partner works part time? we are talking about the difference of 4 hours here? Thanks Paul |

Re: Advice on Kittens
Here's a cat rescue link that I found online recently for someone else, there's loads of rescue organisations on there and hopefully there will be some in your area?
UK ANIMAL RESCUERS - CATS & CAT RESCUERS RESCUERS I would be inclined to try other rescue organisations, particularly some of the smaller ones. |
