Unhappy my 5 week old kitten - having problems :(

Hi All,

I have a cat called po, who had a kitten (just one kitten lol) on the 25th April
the baby who i named Williow is only5 weeks but is not using the litter tray..

ive tried sticking him in there after meals but nothing..
thing is when he sits on my sette he is leaving little wet patchs...
which im not too happy about as ive just bought it cost over £2000 and i still havent even started paying it off...
as soon as he wee's on the settee or anywhere he isnt meant to ive been putting him back into the litter tray and still nothing!!!
im worried now ive started too late in teaching him...
i only started last week.. so now im worried that im doing it all wrong..? :'(

Also

i feed Williow and his mum in the same room and my other cat in seperate room.. yet it seems williow is far more interested in his mothers food then his own....

is this normal and any advice?

i know i dont stop with the questions lol but im just trying to be a good mummy to him lol

Hi usually cats will start using the litter tray at around 4 weeks of age,ive never had to teach mine they just take to it naturally.keep doing what you`ve been doing hes still very young,im sure he will soon get the hang of it.Try confining him to a smaller area for a while, like the kitchen,or another room, put his litter box, food toys etc in with him.

Agree with this - make sure you clean the sofa well or the cat will recognise the scent as that being the place to go - Selk started a cleaning tips thread today - take a look
If you get no2 accidents - pop them in the tray - that will get the scent there and she may get the idea. Make sure the litter tray is very clean as some cats aren't bothered and others won't go unless it's spotless.

Wouldn't worry too much about her eating her Mum's food - are you feeding them different stuff ie mum normal and kitten food. I's probably just leave down the kitten food for both - then you'd only have to buy one thing as you have a pregnant cat too - I think and she can/should eat kitten food as it has the extra nutrients she needs.

Sorry that's long - I ramble more as it gets later - lol

I always feed pregnant mums, lactating mums a quality kitten food,as the extra nutritional value will do her good

It wont hurt her,its lower in nutritional requirements than kitten food is.Obviously kitten food is best for her at this stage,it would also benefit mum too!

Mum has only just finished nursing she will be fine to eat the kitten food and then the kitten will be getting the nutrients it needs.
Hope you don't mind me saying you should take a peek at some better quality cat food - in the long run it's not that much more expensive and if you look at whiskas it's only 4% meat which is ridiculous considering that cats are obligate carnivores.
