How to give a Worm Tablet to our Cat
Hi all,
Well our Vet tends to give the cat our worm tablet for us but this time we need to do it ourself. Can it be mixed into any food or broken up with food if she wont allow us to give it her. What is the best way for this Chris |

we put it in with thier fave food.....tuna, chicken, sardines etc etc
something they dont normally eat, so if the tablet is maybe broken a bit and rolled up in some food then they just down it haha |

Re: How to give a Worm Tablet to our Cat
I've tried the granules before with our old boy,Kevin, that you mix with their food with poor results. There seems to be a lot of it and it looks icky and Kev wouldn't even entertain it.
My new boys are still quite wee and they have half a tablet each as they're under 2kg and last week we just did the old fashioned method of perseverence , especially with Patrick who kept spitting it out . Took a dozen attempts with him but managed in the end. Pop it in and gently rub their throat. If you can hide it in food, great, but we don't give our two anything but cat meat and biscuits at the mo and they spot it straight away which is why we tried another tactic. |

Re: How to give a Worm Tablet to our Cat
We found it impossible to give Enzo his wormer tablet. We tried putting it in EVERYTHING we could think of... but he ALWAYS found it. We even stuffed it in a chunk of meat and he chewed and chewed (we were thinking 'YES!') and then he spat the pill out and finished the meat.

Re: How to give a Worm Tablet to our Cat
I posted about giving cats pills today actually, I've edited it a bit to apply to you
![]() Be confident and try and do this quickly. If the cat is very difficult to manage you could cuddle her up tight in a towel like a baby so she doesn't scratch you or leg it, otherwise just perhaps sit down and have her between your knees, tilt her head right back, gently but firmly squeeze either side of the jawbone, you may have to prise a finger and thumb between her teeth at the sides of the mouth ie the palm of your hand is kind of over her forehead, keep bottom jaw open with a finger and try and make sure you can see right down the thoat (tongue's not in the way) take aim and drop the pill as far down as poss. keep head tilted up now close her mouth with your fingers and stroke her throat downwards to encourage it to go down. Might help if you coat it with butter . good luck xxx And next time you get wormers I can recommend Panacur paste for ease of use and there are other syrups and spot ons on the market. I think that there's one strain of parasitic worms that panacur doesn't deal with. Ask your vet about that. Here's a pic I found. ![]() Alternatively yes you could try grinding it into very fine powder with a pestle and mortar and mixing it in well, but she may well repay you by leaving the food. Ha having been used to a houseful of cats all my life growing up, when I first wormed a dog I tried the "down the neck" method. Absolute fail! They are 10 x more wiley than cats at spitting out pills and it was exasperating. It took me hours and wasting at least 3 pills to suddenly figure out that if I just offered it in my hand like a yummy treat or even chucked it on the floor they would just yomp it up! lol x doesn't work with cats though.
