Re: My new kitten is coming home in a week!
Well she's home and all the rules are out the window.
I'm freaking out about a lot of issues... Firstly she's been chewing her stiches, I got a buster collar made for her, had to cut it down she was so small, but she hates it poor thing, it's awful having to put it on her because she's so affectionate and loves cuddles and headbutts and can't do that as well with the collar. Second and most annoyingingly I haven't seen her go to the toilet yet, and I brought her home at 10AM and it's now 8:30PM. She's been pretty confined but could have gone in the crate where she hid for a few hours or the carpet in the hidey hole I made for her. I spoke to the vet who did think it was weird, I am a bit worried given that she must have needed to go in this long a period. I've got her confined to two rooms now and the collar on when i'm not watching her. I carry her sometimes when i'm moving about the house and she just sleeps in my arms. She's been sleeping a lot!!! Anyway, kinda freaking out here, any advice welcome, Should I restrict her to just the bathroom? Should I be doing anything differently? |

Re: My new kitten is coming home in a week!
I glad she's home. What your doing is good and as she settles she will go potty, she may need to be put in the litter tray every so often as she may need help getting in with the collar. it's a big change for her having an operation and a new family in one day.
![]() The collars are a pain in the azz and are stressful try and keep it on her for at least three days or more if possible. Can she reach her stitches with the collar on? if she can then it needs to be bigger, she can eat by putting the collar over the food bowl and sometimes you may need to position it over while she eats, thats what I had to do. Just be careful how you pick her up, support her butt and legs so the wound isn't stretched. I am so happy for you both and it won't be long and she can give you proper cuddles. |

Re: My new kitten is coming home in a week!
Thanks so much waterlily, always appreciate your replies
![]() Yeah I know it's all soon and new, I just stress a lot ![]() She's so adorable, so cute it's not funny, she's climing all over my desk as I write this. Basically i've decided i'll keep the collar when I can't observe her.. EG i'm going to a wedding tomorrow and she'll be alone for at least 8-10 hours (does that make me mean???????) The collar is long enough that she can't get at the stitches but i'm worried about her being able to eat with it.. might just need to make sure each day that she eats while i'm around to help. Sure things will settle down but I can't help but stress ![]() I was the same way with my puppy when he came. She sure purrs a lot ![]() I really hope she potties soon, im starting to worry anout it. |

Re: My new kitten is coming home in a week!
Cats can hold on for quite a while - I remember one of our cats got shut in the airing cupboard by accident once (it was lovely and warm) 2 !!!!!!! days later we found her - not a single accident. If she seems constipated (and the effects of the operation may have left her so) give her sardines in tomato sauce - that always works with mine.

Re: My new kitten is coming home in a week!
aw she sounds like she's in love with you and so grateful
Don't worry about her going to the toilet she will go, she is probably just overwhelmed and excited about being at your house instead of seeing you at the vet.Don't feel bad about going out just make sure her water and food bowl is smaller than the collar so she can manouver herself over it. She'll be so welcoming when you come home she won't leave you alone ![]() It's a pain but I had to sit with my girls at meal times and push there collar over the bowl and hold it for them. It's good your stressing, it means you care greatly and I respect that you don't have to though ![]() |
