Re: My new kitten is coming home in a week!

Thanks again all,

She's STILL not ready yet.
Saw her on the weekend and she was only 600grams, 200 off being ready for desexing they reckon and in the last 5 days she hasn't put on any weight although they said she's eating heaps and very active.

It's frustrating because I think i've prepared so much mentally and physically for it that having to wait longer than expected is making me feel kinda like a "false start" if you know what I mean.

It's all good, I feel safe that she's in good care at the vet's but I still really REALLY REALLY want her to come home ASAP.
Really what I should be doing is enjoying the peace and quiet while I can :P

Going to go and visit this afternoon, will take pics and post some.

When I visiting her on the weekend I saw her use the litter like a good little girl! So I am less stressed about it than I was !!!!

Re: My new kitten is coming home in a week!

Thanks heaps again guys for all the comments and kind words.

I went to see my baby last night and she is doing good, looking a lot fatter and bigger than before, which kinda upsets me in a way because i'd love to see her growing up rather than just coming back every few days and having her already changing

OH WELL. It's best for her and that's what matters.

Didn't ask if she was ready for desexing yet, figure i'll just leave it until they let me know she's ready.

Slight concerns:
This is just because i'm a cat newbie but I didn't realise how hypo she is, which is not an issue but for the fact that she bites and claws a lot and doesn't seem to like cuddles too much.
I'm sure this is just kitten behaviour, as all the other kitties at the vet's were going wild and wanted to bite and scratch me too.

I've read somewhere that teaching kittens not to bite and scratch from day1 you need to yelp and ignore them when they bite..
Well I've tried this but I somehow feel it doesn't work
When she bites me I make a noise and put her down and walk off and she doesn't seem phased by that at all and just walks off and starts playing with something else.
Not sure that i'm sending the right message?
Any ideas?

When I put her back in the cage with her mum and was about to leave she was up like a flash against the bars meowing and following me, my ego wants me to think that she didn't want me to leave :P
I'm sure she just wanted to play.

Some of her brothers and sisters are still waiting for homes, and I can tell you it's breaking my heart.
I would really love to get one of them as her companion and everyone seems to be encouraging me to do this but I just have to stop myself.
It's silly for me as a single person with a mortgage and bills,
Now that I have two dependants (cat + dog) I just can't afford worming and flea treatment + food and any unkown vet visits for them.

But it is hard

Re: My new kitten is coming home in a week!

Aww she sounds like she's bonding with you through your visits already
Kittens are fairly stupid when it comes to our pain, but she will settle with age. Lots of toys like boxes and pingpong balls, a cat tree etc will help even scrunched up paper thrown around for her.
When my kittys used to bite me I would let them till they got to enthusiastic and then I would say loudly "Uh Uh ! I think thats how you spell it
Don't be pressured to get another one if you don't feel right in your gut about it... The sad thing is there are thousands of cats needing homes and we can't save them all. She won't care if she's on her own, in fact you being single and her will grow an amazing bond just the two of you.
As for desexing I'd advise getting it done as soon as the vet says she's old enough especially if she'll be an outside/inside cat, to help stop the cycle of unwanted babies.
I can't wait for pics of your precious little girl she's going to be so happy...........and naughty by the sounds ..

Re: My new kitten is coming home in a week!

Hi when a small kitten bites u I think they r only playing as they do with their brothers and sisters it is their way of learning how 2 hunt. As she gets older if she trys 2 bite just push her away and ignore her 4 a short while Having said that every cat is very different and all have a personallity of their own. Over the years I have known a lot of cats and no 2 were the same. When your kitten comes home she will bond with u and love u U will have a great time learning all the little things she likes and dislikes. Most important relax love her enjoy her company give her some time 2 be on her own if thats what she wants. U will have a loving friend for years 2 come

Re: My new kitten is coming home in a week!

Thanks again guys for all the support,

REALLY bad news today

My vet said that she's not getting any fatter (one of the vets is going to check her over tomorrow to make sure she's healthy),
Which means i'm in the awful position where I have to now wait until January because of my time away over christmas they won't board her for me if she's been desexed,
So I'm basically forced to wait now until after I get back for her to be desexed..

Oh dear!
I was so looking forward to starting our life together, guess I just have to learn to wait..
I just feel like i'm missing out on so much bonding time

Sorry just wanted to whinge.
