Biting

Hi all,

90% of the time we have a lovely, well behaved, cuddly 4 month old cat however recently he has started biting. He catches us etc when were playing however other times he will attack feet/ hands legs and even my face once. Occasionally he also scratches.

I have tried saying no and moving him (he attacks my hands when I move him) blowing in his face etc however I’m now at a loss. There doesn’t seem to be any kind of pattern in this behaviour.

Does anybody have any ideas? We have 2 year old twin nieces and I’m concerned he’ll bite them
Thanking you all in advance

Re: Biting

Hiya & welcome to PF.

Sorry i can't give you any advice on the biting - i've had no experience of young cats. Hopefully someone will come along soon that can help out.

Re: Biting

I have one cat that has bitten from being a kitten. He is 18 months old now but like a dog he has learned to inhibit his bite. Only yesterday morning I was in bed and he had a bite and tug of my elbow, arm and hand.

He also has a fetish for trousers, and yes he bites visitors too. Fortunately he doesn't cause any damage now but he used to.

I used to stop him and make him stop by physically removing him and saying no very sharply, clapping my hands too works. It depends what he is biting.

It isn't a problem now after he bites he will lick, I get the impression my lad is just being a cheeky chappie seeing what he can get away with.

Re: Biting

Unfortunately, like all baby animals, kittens teeth. It is part of the kitten package. Discourage him by yowling in pain when he does as that usually works.

Re: Biting

Hi!

I have 2 baby kittens 5 months and Dalia is a nightmare for biting!
When she was littler it was ok as he teeth were just little but now flipping heck they arent so little!

Its just playing tho (although you should try while they are young to discourage it) my 2 kittens bite each other all the time. My big babies have never been biters.

Generally I just move my hand away from her and dont respond to her!
She doesnt bite for no reason normally when we are playing and she gets over excited!

So maybe just try ignoring him and slowly moving whatever he is biting away from him if you move it fast its like a game. Just distract him with a toy or something else.

Hope this helps! Its something to try at least!
