Cat lovers' Advice Needed!

Hi everyone, been aaaaaagggesss since I posted, but I have a question for you all!

I'm going away for a week next week, and I own two cats (housecats). My original plan was to get a friend to stay here and look after them whilst I was away, but this plan has now fallen through, and I've tried asking loads of mates but no one seems to be able to do it

Now my Mum used to put her cats in the cattery when she went away, but I have been to catteries and I don't really like the idea of my cats being shut in a bird sized cage for a week. Not only does it seem nasty, but the surroundings would be completely unfamiliar and I don't honestly think they'd get any love or affection.

However, my older brother has offered to come to mine every evening after work to spend the evenings with them, feed them, groom them etc etc and then go home, and come back in the morning to feed them.

So basically, do you think that they'll be OK with this arrangement?

Re: Cat lovers' Advice Needed!

Hiya .... I think they will be fine, probably best for them to stay at home as it can be stressful in catteries if they have never been. They also have each other for company

I agree, keep them at home. at least there is 2 of them and they have each other for company and they know their surroundings.

Yes, the arrangement sounds fine to me. They'll survive! Far better than putting them in a cattery.

I agree. When I go away I have a friend come in every day to care for my cats. This arrangement has worked well for years.

Re: Cat lovers' Advice Needed!

This is what i do when we go away and it works fine , they'll have more room and company than in a cattery and and if your brother is staying a while in the evenings with them they'll probably end up with a lot more attention than in a cattery. I have used cattery's before but only when theres been no other alternative.

Re: Cat lovers' Advice Needed!

Id say they will be more comfortable in there own house with someone checking on them feeding them etc. They will be fine and have done this for mine before.

Sounds absolutely fine.

The other option is to pay a petsitter (i use paw pals) to come once or twice a day, but if you have someone willing to do it for you then it cuts the cost

Re: Cat lovers' Advice Needed!

Your brother would be a better option to a cattery, imo.

Unfortunately my cats have to go to a cattery. The cages they have are spacious and this time I knew I needed two cages and worried about splitting them up. I didn't have to split them up the cages opened up so all three cats had access to two cages. I could have requested three cages but that really wasn't necessary.

There are good catteries around its just finding them.

Re: Cat lovers' Advice Needed!

Unfortunately my cat doesn't do at all well in a cattery so my sister and her husband come in once a day to check on her and feed her when I'm away. She's always alot happier this way rather than being stressed at being moved to an unfamiliar place.
