do cat growl ??

hey all i have never known a cat to growl but zelda is 15 weeks and when she has her favorite toy or my daughters hair band which she seems to get from every wear she wont give it up , she hold it with her teeth like a dog would do with a ball and wont give it up and when i try to get it off her she just growls , i dont mind with her toys but the hair bands are dangerous, so do any off yr cats growl or do zelda think she is a dog pmsl. By the way zelda and salem are geting very big now , well big to me lol will add soem new pics soon xx luv becks x

Re: do cat growl ??

yeah they can growl as a warning, i never realised this until recently either. i have a very playful springer pup and if the cat can`t be bothered playing he`ll just growl at her then she`ll go lay down until he pounces on her when it`s time to play. maybe you could find another hairband for your daughter??

*edit* that sounded like i meant leave that one with the cat, i meant one that your cat doesn`t like so much

Re: do cat growl ??

Yep our mittens growl when they have something delicious, like raw bones, cheese, cucumber or a large slice of cabbage stolen from the compost bin (yes I know, they're wierd). It's to warn each other off. They don't do it when they're eating normal dinner, just when they have something they consider to be a treat!
And our Harry loves hairbands. The thick elastic ones with a lil bit of metal? We have tonnes of them around the house and I never saw them as particularly dangerous xx

Re: do cat growl ??

hello

i have this exact problem with my kitten, although its only with toy mice, she loves them, she will growl when you go near her, walk past and if you get to close or try to take it off her she will scratch you till you walk away. also eldest cat will growl when ever one of the kittens go near him or the puppy,

well tbh i have heard all my cats growl at some point, this is very normal.

Re: do cat growl ??

NEVER leave hairbands lying around, if a cat swallows them they can tangle up in the intestines and cause serious damage......... same with elastic bands. Keep them well out of cats' reach!

We only have the big thick ones as I said - and he plays with them with his paws rather than chewing them as such - he'll just flip them around the place and chase them up and down the stairs- so I don't think there's much chance of him swallowing them. It's be like a baby trying to swallow a scrunchie - possible but unlikely. I do see your point though and tbh I usually take them off him anyway as we kind of need them ourselves! But thanks x
