Getting desperate now, any advice?

Hi.

We have been looking for a new home for Tilly for a few weeks now and despite putting adverts all over the internet and in the local paper we still haven't managed to do so. There was a lady who came to visit her with her children who was lovely but unfortunatley even though they liked Tilly they thought she was a bit too playful for the children and that they would prefer more of a lap cat.

There have also been a few email replies but they haven't lead anywhere, mostly turning out the be time wasters.

My partner only has a week left in the house now before he has to move and he can't take Tilly with him to the new place. There is a woman i am emailing about her at the minute but it's still early days and again this could fall through. I am so worried that we will not be able to find her a home in time.

Our only option it seems is to give her back to the RSPCA or Cats Protection which i just cannot face doing at the moment. I feel awful sending her back to a shelter now she is used to a loving home but i don't see that we really have much choice... this is so hard, i just don't seem to be finding many people wanting a cat at the moment - even though Tilly is gorgeous!?

Anyone looking for a cat or have any suggestions for me about making this easier?! If i had ever thought that we would end up in this situation i never would have got Tilly in the first place, our only intention was to give her a forever home and i just feel dreadful that we have let her down

Re: Getting desperate now, any advice?

IIRC when you first put up a post about your situation several people offered to foster her for you and you said you'd rather send to a permanant home? Seeing as that's not worked out for you you could take up one of those offers perhaps.

Re: Getting desperate now, any advice?

Alot of the CP branches have foster homes whereby some of the fosterers have the cats indoors. That would be better for Tilly than a shelter if you are worried?

Where are you based? We have quite a few contacts so might be able to help.

Re: Getting desperate now, any advice?

When you say you might hae to take her back to RSPCA or CPL do you mean she was adopted from one or other ? If she was you will probably find that your adoption contract states that she would have to go back to them - that would be a legally binding contract. [ Just checking as it was`nt clear from your post if she did come from a rescue organisation of not ].

Of however you got her from whomever bred her they should be the first port of call, [ again if there was a contract involved it would be a legally binding requirement but if there were no contract at all the breeder should still be prepared to take her back and care for her, no good breeder stops responsibility once an animal they have bred has left their premises ].

If you have tried her breeders` route and they don`t want to know and you are free from any contractual obligations please could you confirm this so that anyone who tries to help will know in advance that they won`t be putting a potential adopter in a difficult situation - will ask around as well of course

[ I have a cat now whom was involved in such a case of being homed via a no-kill rescue and the adopter passed him on to someone else, he was successfully reclaimed then homed to me, I know of many other similar cases, it can and does happen, please understand I`m not trying to be difficult, just trying to make sure you are fully aware in case she did come from a rescue which does abide by the lifetime responsibility they take on for any animals they rehome ].

Its understandable that you want her to go straight to a permanent home rather than foster but a lot of fosters do end up staying put, [ been there, done that, the last cats I fostered are still with me 10 years on and won`t be going anywhere ], so please do re-consider that if serious offers have been made

*If she came from a rescue which does not have a no-kill policy then it would not be in her best interests to be returned in which case if you rehomed her against a contract, and they found out, let them take it to court if they dare, though such places would not likely bother as they prefer to keep their financial resources firmly in the bank rather than on pursuing a case which would likely fail ie `Judge, we want this cat back so we can kill it ` would not be one they would want to be seen in the papers !

Re: Getting desperate now, any advice?

I can foster her if you wish, it will only be in an outdor pen but it would buy time. I agree that if she came from a rescue they need to be contacted first.

Re: Getting desperate now, any advice?

Thank you for all of your advice and especially the offer for fostering which was very kind.

Thankfully, we have managed to find her home. We are getting her booster vaccs tomorrow and then the lady is picking her up on Saturday. The new owner is lovely and clearly loves cat very much, i have every confidence she will spoil Tillill as much as i have which is of some comfort.

Will still be very hard for me to say goodbye though; i can't imagine seeing her going off with someone else and knowing i won't see her again It will be extremely upsetting but i know it's for the best. Until Saturday i am going to give her as much fuss and love as possible; she will probably forget all about us within a few days but i will miss her a lot.

Well that is good news. Yes it will be hard but you have found her a home.
