This must be terrible for you. We have had a similar problem with my husband.
We went to the hospital to have an allergy test done. I was dreading it. When the test was done it showed that he had asthma and not an allergy to cats!
Have you had a test done?
Your allergy could be a couple of things. Especially if it's worse some days than others.
ie, Damp weather, fungal spores is another problem this time of year.
There's alot of stuff on websites for allergy to cats such as air purifiers i think it's just a matter of trying these things.
My heart goes out to you 'cause i really love cats and to suffer with this is so sad.
Hope you find something that works for you soon.

No, I have not had any tests done. It is really strange as I have been ok but on Sunday it was terrible. I will see how it develops and go from there. Thanks for your posts.
