Food

Hey,
so I have my 2 kittens now for nearly 3 weeks. While they still need to get used to me (ok, only one as the other one loves sleeping on my leg when I sit on the sofa, the other one still runs away from me), I am still trying to fully understand their eating habbit.

I use the dry food from P@H, one bowl for the two for the day, and refill it in the evening. In addition I give them one pouch from Felix for Kittens. They really love that, and I get the impression now that they do not want to eat the dry food as much, as they always want more wet food when I get home (there is always dry food left when I get home). However, I prefer only give them one pouch per day to share.

Is it ok, and enough, to give them mainly the dry food from P@H, and use the wet food as a daily treat?

Just a bit confused, as they meow when I get home, and still meow a bit after they get the dry food.

Any suggestions or comments?

Re: Food

Sounds to me like they prefer the wet food and anyway, wet food is much better for them - more moisture which is what a cats diet should be. I would do it the other way round - dry food as a treat and wet food as the main. Felix isnt brilliant with regard to meat content, there are better higher meat content wet (Hi life, Bozita, Forthglade, Applaws/Encore (applaws and encore not complete but fine as occasional offering) - but if they life Felix I wouldnt make any big changes, just continue with Felix, and maybe give some of the higher meat content brands a few times a week.

Re: Food

My two kittens do that so now I give them a pouch each in the morning and 1 each in the evening and they always have dried food down which they usually scoff at night! lol They will get used to the routine once you have established it.

Re: Food

Thanks for the response. I thought, and was told Dry food would be enough. So they will get one pouch in the morning and evening.

I will look into other brands as well then.

Cheers for the help

Re: Food

Bozita is a good brand wet food 93% meat (and no other fillers)and works out about half the price of Felix or Whiskers. Alas you do have to buy it online. Its not specifically for kittens but is for all age cats.

You can get it at either zooplus or Seapets. Seapets are selling theirs for 90p per 360/370g carton right now. (Just watch out for the shipping charges if you order less than £29 at a time)

My little one loves to lick the jelly off it first, then go back a few minutes later to finish it off.

Re: Food

I find mine are choosy not necessarily for the good stuff, I used RC dry but it took them ages to eat it. They love JWB and Purina Hair control dry, and felix pouches.

They have a bowl each of dry available to them 24/7. They have a bowl each of Felix wet (pouches) twice a day sometimes three times a day it depends how quick they eat it.
