Returning Kitten

Hi just wondered if anyone had any suggestions,
As i sold a pedigree kitten last year, the people have not kept me upto date with her progress at all, no pics nothing!! even to the fact that she is still registerd in my name, although she has been spayed! (suposedley) i have no reason to dought them!
Now they contact me!!!!!!!!!! saying
They have now had a baby 6wks old, and say the baby is having a reaction to the cat rash/sneezing the dr`s say it is the cat, and could i take her back or find a new loving home for her, i have no problem taking her back, and i will try to find a loving home for her if i can,
but what is the protacol for this, do i refund all the money they paid, bearing in mind she is now nearly 1! will it be easy to rehome her?
I have never had a kitten/cat returned before, and it is my understanding that there is NOTHING wrong with the cat, and to no fault of her own she has to leave their home.

Re: Returning Kitten

As you know my situation is slightly different to yours but i had a lady call me 18mnths after buying a kit.she was very ill and had lost her husband and needed to rehome him,i asked what she wanted for him(which was less than she paid)so i went over got him back, kept him for a while then rehomed him, very easily, for a third of the origional price. He settled in vey well and quickly with his new owners.Doesnt it annoy you when people say they will keep in touch and dont!i sometimes feel like a stalker keep ringing people to check on progressgood luck with your kitty it will be fine!at least you can choose another suitable homeand as far as babe goes if they stuck with it he/she would build up immunity!

Re: Returning Kitten

When they bought the kitten they promissed to keep in contact, iv emailed left messages on phone all sorts over the months, and nothing, even to the point i left message saying that the cat was still legaly mine as there never transfered her to their name, hoping to get something back from them, they did email once to say she was pregnant and that they were moving home, and that they would send info when they had settled, but then this morning i got the email asking me to rehome her for them, well @ least they did some thing right!

Re: Returning Kitten

I'm not a breeder but considering how they treated you I wouldn't offer money for the cat - get an idea in your head of what you'll give them if they ask - but if they don't ask then don't offer. It's not your fault that their child is allergic to the cat.

Re: Returning Kitten

I have it in my contract that they must offer me the cat back in the first instance but I don't say anything about payment. I wouldn't mention it unless they do and then just make them an offer of a nominal amount saying you will incur expenses in having her vet checked, (you will need obviously to see if her innoculations are up to date) and so on and advertising for a home. If you need help in finding her a loving home please don't hesitate to contact ragsrescue we are there if you need us. We don't "buy" cats - they are surrendered to us and we will ask the prospective adopter to pay an adoption fee to cover any expenses incurred. We do thoroughly check out prospective adopters and are always available to offer continued help, advice and support afterwards.

If you need any more info PM me.

Do keep us informed.

Re: Returning Kitten

I wouldn't give them any money back...

Slightly callous, but if they had a sofa that was a year old and their baby was allergic to it, would they take it back to the store and get a refund? NO!

I'd take the kitten back and rehome her (maybe free to a good home, as you've already had your money for it)

Thats how I'd see it from a business point of view... from a more human point of view, if you give them the hard sell, they might just end up taking the cat to a resuce, or chucking her/him out on the street... you've got to made a judgement on what's best for the cat

I personally would never offer any animal free to a good home i cant help thinking easy come easy go...i know it doesnt guarantee a permenant good home by asking a fee but people are less likely to carelessly pass it on.I would also be happy to refund full money,if still kitten,or part if a older cat, just so i know where kittys going.

Re: Returning Kitten

Why? I never paid for either of my cats... Thats a bit of a narrow minded attitude I'm afraid. Just because I didn't pay for my cats doesn't mean I'd just chuck them out, or give them up.
