Question cats jumping on worktops please help!!

we have 6 cats altogether, we get 3 of them from a farm up the road, brothers and sister, as they wear outside for the 1st 10 weeks of there life they had no house manners. they are now over a year and mum n dad are at the end of there tether with them, as me and my two sisters have one each.

they are always jumping on the worktops in the kitchen, and they have now taught our new kitten to do it as well, obv we don't want them to do this as this is where food is prepared does anyone know how to put them off wanting to go up there or any advise is greatly appreciated.

Midnight oh I'm sorry but that mince pie story made me giggle! Arn't they devils our fur babys?

Nefertiti struts around wherever she wants despite me putting her down and telling her firmly to get down. She just looks at me with an indignant look on her face like she is saying "Who do you think you are telling me what to do in my own home". lol.

I've personally sort of surrendered and I just give the counter tops and throrough scrub down before I do any cooking whatsoever.

I guess you could always shut them out of the kitchen (if thats possible?). I don't cook when Nefs (or any one else when they are big enough) incase they take to the counter and decide to add a few cat hairs to my baking/cooking mixtures.

Re: cats jumping on worktops please help!!

I know it sound a lil harse but get some small water pistols and whenever you see them jump up wher they shouldn't squirt them until they get done, works with mine. Although you cant see when your not there, it should still help

Re: cats jumping on worktops please help!!

When Layla started this I put a shallow tray of water on the counter top-just far enough back so she couldn't see it, but would land in it if she jumped on the worksurface. Two soakings later and she hasn't done it since (touch wood it stays that way!)

Re: cats jumping on worktops please help!!

Sure I remember a post before about this and some recommendations of using double sided sticky tape on the edge puts them off, after they've tried it the once with that thy won't again and you can take it off??? Has anyone else heard that. Mine aren't big enough to do it yet.

Re: cats jumping on worktops please help!!

Can't give any advice from personal experience as my cats are dreadful for jumping on worktops but I did read something on a recent similar thread advising putting double sided sticky tape on the worktops, towards the front I think. Apparently they can't stand the feel of the stuff. I think I'd rather put up with the cats than cover my new kitchen worktops with tape, though.
