Re: Cats and Other Pets

I have kept small pets with my cats but hamsters are best shut in a room with a secure door if yours havent been brought up with critters. Your cat will try to stick his paws through if given the chance.

Re: Cats and Other Pets

We have 4 rats & 4 cats, the 2 older cats completely ignore the rats, the 2 kittens show an interest but generally leave them alone- the rats have been known to nip the cats & dogs through the cage bars so I think they have got the hint that the rats can defend themselves!

Re: Cats and Other Pets

My cat didnt bother with the guinea pigs though think its there size and yes they give a nasty nip. So sometimes its actually safer for your cat to be apart . Depends on your own cats reactions some are fine others would like it for breakfast, luch or tea. x

Re: Cats and Other Pets

I had a bird with my lot. Kinda wierd to see a 25 pound maine coon run from a cocketiel

I would just suggest giving the hamster its own room that off limit to the cat.

Re: Cats and Other Pets

we have a russian dwarf hamster in the lounge, the cage is solid plastic on the bottom half and wire on the top half.

originally the kittens didn't notice her, then they would sit on the table and watch from a distance but now they can jump up all the furniture and get to her! they sit on top of the cage and watch her when she is awake, she loves walking upside down along the top bars of the cage and the kittens try to sniff her but she goes for their paws so they end up dancing up and down on top of the cage - very funny to watch

in the last week though they've not been going there so much
