Re: British short hair

I have Bsh cats and they are all laid back, my silver spotty is the boss though over the selfs.

Pic of my blue girl and 3 girl kits stuffing their faces attached 43 days old today.

I am thinking of maybe keeping 2 as one is looking very promising to show in the future.

Re: British short hair

We have 2 bsh blues, Ernest and Stanley, 16 week old brothers. They are the most wonderful cats Ive ever owned They are so friendly and clever and affectionate, but so placid and laid back. I dont know what we ever did without them!

They are expensive and it took a lot for my husband and I to justify spending so much on cats, but I can honestly say they are worth every penny, and more.

One thing I will say, is that they really shouldnt be allowed outside to roam as they really do lack 'street sense' unlike moggies. We are lucky and have a cat proof walled garden where the boys like to play for an hour or so everyday, and we are happy they are completely safe, but predominately they are indoor cats, and happy that way.

Although our boys are our only pets, my father in law also has a 9 year old bsh blue boy who lives with 2 ragdolls. They tolerate but are not overly friendly towards one another.

I would highly recommend getting 2 siblings if funds will allow, as my 2 boys go everywhere together and are so so happy in each others company

Here are a few pics of my boys

Hi, I own a Blue British Shorthair who is 18 months old. He is adorable and very loving. He adores playing and chasing me round the house and loves cuddles. My three year old daughter gets kisses from him and when someone knocks at the door he runs to it and sits there!! I am thinking of getting another as company for him, but would def recommend this breed of cat.

Re: British short hair

Hi..I have two BSH girls.
Dolly is a blue and almost 12 months old and Poppy is 5 months old and is a blue tortie and white. I simply would not be without them. They have wonderful characters, are very affectionate and laid back.
Both my girls accepted my daughter's moggie for a weekend stay..no probs at all. But I did notice that my daughter's moggie was far more active than my two BSH's. Definately recommend this breed!

Re: British short hair

Hiya, only joined up today!

We own a cream male british shorthair called Milo, he's 15months old, very laid back he is, and agree with the comments about predominantly indoor cat, as they lack street-wise-ness lol

Milo goes out in our garden, which is secluded, and comes in at the first call of his name.

We love him that much, that we're after another BSH to keep him company!

Some pics that I've taken of him are on the below link

Welcome to the site.
What a beautiful boy. He looks just like my Harley. We adopted him last April he's now 17 months old. They are a lovely Breed. Just like real Teddy Bears!

I was looking for a colourpoint before I bought my birman kitten but there are not many around . Are they not as popular these days. But they are lovely cats and not quite as hard to groom as full persian. I used to breed them years ago.

Re: British short hair

I have 2 and like everyone else has said they are the most laid back cats ever (very lazy too) and are completely accepting and tolerant of the cats we have to stay for weekends and rabbits in the house, and rescue kittens. They just sniff them let them get on with it. Everyone who has met them calls them teddy bears. People say that they are not so keen on sitting on you and would rather lie next to you. This is true with Winston but Lola wants to be on laps constantly. They both spend 99.9% of the day sleeping.

They have no street sense though whatsoever so they only go outside supervised although I can trust Winston a bit more to not wonder as he’s scared of cars and loud noises. Lola will wonder up to anyone and would happily wonder into the road I fear; Winston however is a bit more wary of the road and luckily will come back if I call his name.

However, Winston doesn’t seem to understand other cats body language as he'll happily wonder up to one of the neighbour hood bully cats despite them hissing and batting him. He doesn’t seem to understand that they don’t want to be friends.

Lola is also completely silent which I think is common with the breed. She puurs constantly but has not once meowed, Winston is a noisy little bugger…I think he must have some Siamese in him somewhere.

The other characteristic they seem to share is that they want to be with you all the time. They will follow me everywhere…when I go to the toilet the follow and sit next to me, when I have a bath or shower they sit next to it and watch, if I wonder into the kitchen they wait whilst I’m cooking. They just love human companionship!!!

Good luck, I don't think you can get better than a BSH

Re: British short hair

Get one, get one, get one!!

We have a 4 year old British Blue called Otto. My friend got divorced and neither of them could keep him so we said we'd have him, even though I had never had a cat before and wasn't too keen. But my husband LOVES cats so we thought we'd give it a go.

Quite simply, he is the most amazing cat. He is not one ounce of trouble, demands a little attention (but only when he wants it!), and although he does hunt throughout the summer months, in the winter he barely ventures out of the house. He is great with the kids and so placid and laid back. Plus he is ENORMOUS...he causes quite a stir when we go to the vets. Everyone always says " I don't like cats normally, but he is GORGEOUS!".

I would have another British Blue tomorrow - I know what people mean about paying for a cat when there are so many in rescues etc - but these are such special cats I would be prepared to make an exception, even though Otto came to us for free. Life without Otto now would be unthinkable and I always thought I wasn't a cat person!
