I spent last night pacing the floor, standing outside and shouting 'HERBERT' at the top of my voice but my beautiful black cat never showed up!! I was so worried, although we didn't have many fireworks and I live somewhere very remote so while I was worried I didn't really think he was dead anywhere but I wanted him home. Anyway 10 o'clock and in he strolls not only bone dry even though it was raining, but also smelling of another woman's perfume!!!!!!!!!!

So my question is, my cat who usually is terrified of strangers is obviously playing away so what can I do about it? He did eat his food and stayed for a cuddle and battered a dog or two before disappearing again so I know he's happy at home but obviously I don't want him starting to settle at someone else's house cos he's MINE!!!

Maybe keep the stud inside or on a leash?

spoil him rotten so he has no need to stray!?!?

If people think your cat has expensive requirements then they are more likely to ignore them

The grass is always greener on the other side, that is until you get there and realise "better the devil you know".
Only joking ,I'm sure he will see the error of his ways and come back with his tail between his legs.

Oh he's already chipped (all my animals are chipped even the horse!!) he's had loads of collars and keeps loosing them. I'll try the don't feed me tag trick though.

Wouldn't mind but he is spoilt!! He's the only cat amoungst many dogs and they treat him like a king!! I buy him whatever food he wants and he comes and goes as he please's and when he does come home he get a welcome like the long lost son!!

I couldn't believe it!! I don't wear perfume so the moment he jumped on my knee I knew he'd been snuggled up to someone else!! Wouldn't mind but the moment I have visitors he runs and hides and does the shy trick!!
