Kitten Pee`ing in the laundry basket!

We have been quite lucky with our cats so far as they have not had many accidens but twice this week now one of them has pee`d in the laundry basket. They have always played in there but when this has happened he has seemd to specifically jump in there to settle down for a pee.

We didnt shout at him each time, we just picked him up and put him next to his tray.

The tray is cleaned daily as they do use it a lot. We have recently changed the tray to a larger, but fully enclosed one (to try to control the smelly poop during the day). I have wondered if it might be this smelling a little. When he did it the first time I cleaned the whole thing thoroughly but he has done it again.

We also had a kitty poop bin in the kittens room with the tray. This was a bit like a nappy bin. We would empty this every other day but I threw it out today as it was not as air tight and trouble free as advertised. I was also wondering if the pong coming from this might have made him want to go somewhere else. Or....if for some reason we have annoyed him so this is his little revenge lol.

Doe anyone have any ideas, as we are now worried about giving them the freedom of the house when we are not in.....

Thanks!

Re: Kitten Pee`ing in the laundry basket!

Can you take the door off the litter tray to make it a bit open? Try that, Fizgig went through a phase at one point of going NEXT to the litter tray and doing that helped. Also have your changed litter? if so they might not like the new stuff. Also I'd move the laundry basket to another place so it isn't a 'routine' for him to go in it. Moving it to another place might be all it takes.

Re: Kitten Pee`ing in the laundry basket!

he is poo`ing in there ok, he does share it with his brother though. We clean it daily. The laundry basket was in a different room each time (we had moved it to clean it and didnt take it back lol).

Also today, he pee'd into a cardboard box which had new cups in. Im not sure if these are accidents or intended. The last week we have changed the house around quite a bit, redecorating and rearranging two rooms. New furniture has also been added to their room.

Im not sure if its because of this, or because they maybe need to be neutred. Any hints?

Ill try taking the door off tomorrow but he seems to find it to poo.

Oh also, he is an untidy pooper, he sometimes gets it on his paws and often has a little bit left on his bum. BEcause of this if he does a poo we pick him up and check his paws and sometimes baby wipe his bum to get the excess off. I wondered if maybe he is angry about this and this is why he is weeing in odd places. Sounds daft but im really not sure what it could be :-)
