Food query

Hello!

Am now feeding the boys on chicken/coley and rice after another bout of upset runny tummies... Does anyone know if i could continue feeding them home cooked chicken, fish, raw mince (beef and rabbit) etc instead of putting them back onto wet processed pouches? They've clearly not got any tolerance for Hi-life as this has caused their upsets (after weaning them off of whiskas onto this) but seem to tolerate Hills dry kitten chicken flavour. I dont mind cooking them chicken/coley/tuna/beef and rabbit mince etc but not sure if this covers all their dietry requirements. They are both good drinkers so i know they'll get enough fluids plus i put a couple of spoonfuls of water onto their chicken mix this morning and they didnt mind that at all. Advice please from all you knowledgable fur mums! Thanks... )

Re: Food query

just be a little careful about feeding them soley like this - taurine is a very important vitamin for cats that they have to ingest (i.e. take from their food) otherwise they get very ill. Cooking meat destroys taurine and in rwaw you have to feed the right proportions of meat, organ and bone to get this level right. So 80% muscle meat (including heart), 10% organ meat, and 10% bone for raw. It's a bit complicated first of all getting it all right on your own. I'm a wimp so get it from companies that have sorted out all the right ingredients and minced it for me (www.food4-cats is one such place)

Re: Food query

I choose a mixture of the flavours (the mince in tubes) but add extra chicken and rabbit as they are their favourites and then add in a bag of rabbit chunks. I buy in bulk as the postage is the same - tend to spend between £12 and £20 at a time and shove it in the freezer. At the moment I'm doing every other day raw and finshing off my wet inbetween (again I buy in bulk so could take a while). Once I've got rid of most of it I'll go to 5/6 days a week raw and 1/2 days a week wet - I'm sticking to a bit of wet for when we go away and others feed them (can't ask them to do the raw really).
