Unhappy Its gonna cost me to get his nails cut

I clip the cats nails once a week. But I can not clip Horris nails, just at the sight of the nail clippers he freaks out.

At the vet three to four of us have to hold him down to clip his nails

His nails right now are long enough their curling. I'm gonna make an appointment to go to the vets just so they can clip his nails. The only down side is they will charge me 30$ to get them cut

anyone have any tips?

Cuz Ive tried everything.

Re: Its gonna cost me to get his nails cut

Does a scratching post help to keep cat's nails down? Or are they purely to satisfy the urge to scratch?

Good luck with the nail cutting... we haven't cut Enzo's nails yet!

Re: Its gonna cost me to get his nails cut

with our feral cat we clip her claws before we take her to the vets, just wrapping her tight in a towel and popping out one paw at a time... takes 2 people for comfort, one to hold angry towel wrapped cat and one to clip.

We only do her front claws as she keeps her back ones fairly short by herself.

Thank you for your replies

Lizward so your girl is ok with her nails long? What I'm worried about is another eye incident were Deckers Eye was scratched because of long nails.

I'm not sure about the scratching pole keeping their nails trimed. My guys dont have one yet because I'm moving next year and it would be cheaper to wait till after we move to bu them a nice scratching play set.

I've tried the towel thing by myself and that went straight down hill, someone probably thought I was murdering him

But I have good news. Just went downstairs and decided to give it another go. I picked him up and sat him on my lap. I got my brother to come in who Horris is scared of to hold him by the scruff of his kneck. I was able to clip his front paws with only hiss's didnt want to push my luck with his back paws.

Well, I doubt if many people do clip their cats claws. I only do them when I am showing or if I have a cat who becomes too painful when on my knees!
