baby going to the vets

My little baby is going to be spayed this morning and I'm more distressed this morning about not giving her her morning feed, she keeps running into the kitchen and looking at me as if to say "where's my breakfast". I feel so bad

Is there anything I need to know what to do for her after she's had the op? do I feed her normally or is it best to give her some chicken for a while?? this is the first time I have had to do this and I'm really nervous

Re: baby going to the vets

just feed her normally after about 5pm (Vets will say when it's ok to feed her)

she may feel a bit icky/grotty for the rest of today, but will be fine tomorrow most likely... Mabel my feral cat was outside and utterly back to normal after 2 days.

Re: baby going to the vets

They usually suggest giving them something light and bland to eat such as chicken for the first day.

Re: baby going to the vets

Ok thank you, I have just been to pick her up and she has managed to rip the cone collar thingy off and is growling like mad, this is totally out of character for her, I have left her in the carrier but took the door off, I queried wether she was ok to come home and the vet said yes, she was done between 9.30 and 10.30.
Do I just leave her to it for a bit or do i have to try and get the cone back on.

sorry for asking so many questions but I'm really worried

Re: baby going to the vets

I would try to get the cone back on, they never tighten them enough all four of my cats collars came off almost immediately
stick two fingers in and tighten it around your fingers, then pull them out. That should be tight enough.
My cats have all been fine after a day or so, it is stressful for us especially the damn collar. But she will be fine soon.

Re: baby going to the vets

It's OK, I do find it a bit more of a worry when its girls getting done rather than boys! All of my girls never had a cone on and they have been fine, just wanting to sleep really. If you can keep an eye on her I wouldnt bother with it, it is probably why she was a bit grumpy as well as coming off the anesthetic.

I would leave her to come out in her own time but if she is going to "that area" it might be best to try and fit the cone on her for a while

Re: baby going to the vets

She keeps trying to wash the area that has the stiches and has picked at them a couple of times, I phoned the vets up and the receptionist was quite snotty with me and said i must get the collar back on, how do i do that when she is hiding under my daughters bed and won't come near me.
I'm trying to leave her to come to me as I don't want to stress her anymore than she already is
I'm shaking like mad and I'm really upset, my other half is on his way home so I'll have to wait till he gets here

Try not to panic, I would leave her alone and wait for her to come out before grabbing her. Make a cup of tea and wait for your OH to get home.

Dont worry about the receptionist, its their job to be rude

Re: baby going to the vets

Is it possible to lure her out with a bit of nice smelly food? You don't necessarily have to let her eat it, but if she's hungry it might just lure her out.
