Why do cats rub against ur legs?

My kittens do it all the time. Does it mean anything in particular?

Feed me NOW

It's a sign of affection and also marking you as their territory. They have scent glands on the side of their faces so when you see them rubbing up against things they are marking them with their scent.

Re: Why do cats rub against ur legs?

they are marking you as their property lol

it usually happens when you are opening the food or in the kitchen for some reason
with one of my cats this is the only time they will touch me- she is very independant.

Hehehe. When I'm in the kitchen doing the washing up they do it. So it is likely they want their food 

When me or the OH are watching tv they will climb on us and rub their face in ours. Aaaaw means they love us and we are their slaves!! Lol.

Re: Why do cats rub against ur legs?

It's their way of saying "I love you what have you got for me to eat?" lol and they mark their territory, every time my Mum and Dad come with their dog when they've gone, Oscar marks everything in sight in the lounge including humans heheh.

When I'm on the laptop Oscar rubs his face against the screen bit and I say "no, my laptop" so he does it even more rofl

Oscar also does it on hard surfaces to try and rid the plaque from his teeth because he has gingivitis, either that or it's to sooth his gums but you should hear his teeth grinding against the table or whatever he's doing it against. He does it less since I have been massaging his gums every day .

Hope this helps a bit

Re: Why do cats rub against ur legs?

Well i have the book Cat watching and it reads:
Partly to make friendly physical contact with you, but there is more to it then that... The cat usually starts by pressing against you with the top of its head or the side of its face, then rubs all along its flank and finally may slightly twine its tail around you. After this it looks up and then repeats the process, sometimes several times. If you reach down and stroke the animal,it increases its rubbing often pushing the side of its mouth against your hand, or nudging upwards with the top of its head. Then eventually it wanders off,its greeting ritual complete, sits down and washes its flank fur.
All these elements have special meanings, essentially what the cat is doing is implementing a scent-exchange between you and it.There are special scent glands on the temples and at the gape of the mouth, another is situated at the root of the tail. Without your realizing it, your cat has marked you with its scent from these glands, the feline fragrances are too delicate for our crude noses, but it is important that friendly members of the cat's family should be scent-sharing in this way. This makes the cat feel more at home with its human companions. And it is important too,for the cat to read our scent signals, this is achieved by the flank rubbing element of the greeting, followed by the cat sitting down and 'tasting' us with its tongue-through the simple process of licking the fur it has just rubbed so carefully against us.

So there you go Explained x
