Moving from a litter tray to poo'ing outside?

Casper uses a litter tray in our kitchen at the moment. He goes out for most of the day on and off but always comes back to poo. Sometimes he will rush in as if he is busting to go. How do I start to train him to go outside? I tried putting the litter tray outside the back door but he came in a poo'd on the bathroom floor

Re: Moving from a litter tray to poo'ing outside?

What about gradually moving the tray towards the back door (if it's not there already), maybe putting a bit of garden soil in the tray with the litter and most important, having a very well dug patch of soil as close as possible to the back door that he can really easily scrabble into (and maybe a bit of cat litter on top so he understands what it's for). If you make the garden convenient and easy to use he's more likely to be willing to toilet there.

Re: Moving from a litter tray to poo'ing outside?

Both my cats have used the garden from almost day one they prefere it to cat litter they will use the litter tray at a push but will cry at the back door to go out but my next door neighbours cat uses her tray and has never wanted to use the garden i think it depends on the cat and their preferences personally i would prefere mine to use the tray as i hate going out in the rain and digging up the solids so they have a clean garden
