Dry Heaves

Dry heaves

My 2 year old Himalayan has dry heaves but produces no hair balls. What should I do? I give her hairball treatment every other day to everyday, now. Could it be something other than hairballs?
We scheduled an appointment Wednesday with the vet, but anything you guys can give me would help.

Thank you,
Scott

Re: Dry Heaves

It's probably a hairball. My cats dry heave before they bring one up.

Re: Dry Heaves

I think you are right to get her checked at the vets, it may just be a hairball she can't shift, but it could be something more serious. My Sam (also a himmie) was doing that and I'd always assumed hairballs, although nothing was produced - he was diagnosed with HCM (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy) which can be an inherited problem in many pedigree breeds, including persians/himalyan, colourpoints. So, definitely worth a check up. Let us know how you get on.
