Rod Little Article todays Sunday Times

The clown Rod Little appears to be encouraging people to poison cats with antifreeze even providing a recipe. This was in todays Sunday Times this is against the law and a damn cruel thing to do to a defenceless animal. Unfortuently some will take up his advice. What an idiot !!!

This is the article

Antifreeze – cool for cats

Never do anyone a favour — it will surely be misunderstood. With the nights drawing in and the weather turning much colder, Katherine Hall came up with the thoughtful notion that maybe her neighbour’s two cats would appreciate some antifreeze. So she mixed it up with tinned tuna and left it by the hedge. The cats — Mr Baz and Nush, who were both abyssinians and therefore almost certainly asylum seekers — sadly died as a consequence. Bizarrely, Mrs Hall was fined £1,500 rather than given the freedom of her borough, despite the fact that the cats were in her garden doing their usual stuff of defecating on the lawn and urinating on her strawberries. When will cat owners take responsibility for their foul and destructive pets? Apparently, cats — like Russians — are very partial to antifreeze; can’t resist it. I just mention this fact, in passing.

Re: Rod Little Article todays Sunday Times

I read about this (and got embroiled in a war of words ) on another forum but didn't realise there was an article in The Times.
What a stupid, stupid man!!!

I hope he feels a severe backlash from cat lovers for those irresponsible comments.
IDIOT!

Re: Rod Little Article todays Sunday Times

I agree it's sick but he's a pretty vile man anyway. Remember how badly he treated his wife? He's just a joke and I don't think many people have any respect for his views, but it's irresponsible journalism nonetheless. I'm sure there is a complaints procedure. However, the PCC or whoever it is would probably just say it was humorous, not intended to be taken seriously, and you might not get anywhere. Giving a "recipe" was awful. I just hope that readers of the Times would be more civilised than to follow his advice, whatever they thought of their neighbours' cats.

Re: Rod Little Article todays Sunday Times

I too am incensed about the above article. I am a member and volunteer for Cats Protection and this person, who I will loosely call a journalist is putting ideas in peoples head.

What kind of editor allows this kind of material to be printed? I am sure the step by step instructions of how to make a home bomb would not of been printed but I personally do not see a difference between the two when innocent victims will be the end result.

At CP our job is hard enough with the level of cruelty we already have to witness. Do we really need someone adding fuel to the already rising problem?

I certainly won't be buying the Sunday Times again and will be urging anyone who cares about animals to do the same until this imbecile Rod Liddle is held accountable for his actions!!!

Re: Rod Little Article todays Sunday Times

Glad i don't and certainly never will buy the sunday times. I witnessed my mums beautifull 4yr old cat lying dying as a result of antifreeze poisoning. He had to be put to sleep as his organs were failing and it would have been a slow horrible death. Lots of other cats in the street suffered the same fate.

Re: Rod Little Article todays Sunday Times

Some cats will die in agony just like tylows mums cats in the next few weeks / months directly as a result of Rod Littles article. But of course that was Rods intention.

Also as per poster above you have to question the integrity of the person in the Sunday times who approved the article. The content of the article is advising and instructing on a criminal act as well as fostering extreme animal cruelty.

Its infuriating and we can’t do much but we can take some steps. By all means don’t buy the Sunday times but write to the editor and let him know what you think. There is also the RSPCA, the press complaints commission and potentially the police if he is seen to be inciting a criminal offence.

As for Rod Little he is now publicising and promoting and himself nationally as an animal abuser.

Not the wisest strategy I can think of.

Just a small point, but isn't his name Rod Liddle? - Just that if anyone is going to write and complain, they might need to get the name right

You're absolutely right, it is Liddle. I'm wondering when this story first appeared in the press because there's been a spate of antifreeze killings in Nottingham (Clifton) over the past fortnight, so you can't help wondering if there's a connection with the publicity given to the story generally.
