2 cats = 2 litter trays?

Am I right in assuming that if we take on two kittens, we should really provide at least two litter trays?

The cats will be mostly indoor, only going out into a secured garden, and probably only under supervision.

Entirely depends on the kittens. You could get away with one large one between them providing they aren't fussy or have two. We have two because one is fussy.

Re: 2 cats = 2 litter trays?

Hi,

I have 2 litter trays for my kittens and they use both of them. I was worried just in case one decided to do their business on the floor if i had one tray!

I have two kittens and they use one medium/large tray between them but I am home with them most of the time so their business gets scooped out pretty much as soon as they have done it, so they don't mind sharing.

Hi, Willow and Loki have had 2 litter trays since they were kittens. They use one for wees and one for poos! I think it;s always best to give them the option of 2 though - better safe than sorry! x

My two share one tray - and they get on ok with this. They also have the garden option during the day.

You should really wait and see what the kittens prefer, some cats are happy sharing a tray so long as you quickly remove any solids, but others won't use a tray if another cat has used it, as they mature you will see that they will naturally make up their own minds.

Re: 2 cats = 2 litter trays?

have they come from the same home to start with? if they are litter trained they may be already be sharing at the breeders/owners place?
I have a large litter tray which is covered with a hood. My 2 kittens are quite happy using the one but I suppose it comes down with just seeing how they go....

It is recommended to have one tray per cat.
