Thinking of moving, Introducing kittens to a dog & cat
Hiya,
Me and my girlfriend are thinking about moving back into my mums house for a year or so to get all our finances and debts paid off before buying our own house. Everything about it is good, except the fact we have 2 kittens, 10 weeks old. My mum has a cross retriever who is about 8 year old, and a cat who is about 4 year old. The cat and dog already get on ok, theyre hardly best friends they ignore each other more than anything. Except theyll occassionally lie next to each other. Do you think ill struggle taking the kittens to live with them? Ive heard it might be harder for the cat to adjust to the kittens, than the dog? When my mum first got bella (her cat) roly (the dog) went mad but after a few days they were ok. If we do move in there, it wont be until january when this rent contract is up. So im planning on bringing the dog down here today, and doing it like that gradually a couple of times a week, before we move in. And also take them to my mums for an hour or so a few times before. The only other thing is, bella goes out, shes very street wise and spends most of her time out rather than in. We dont want these going outside, do you think it would be near impossible when they see bella going out? thanks for any advice. |

Re: Thinking of moving, Introducing kittens to a dog & cat
I brought a kitten into my home in July that had a fully grown dog & a 9 month old cat. The kitten & the dog were easy to sort out as the dog was well aware already that cats have claws. The cat & kitten were more difficult, to be honest, & it took time & supervision but they now play along with each other & eat from each others' bowls.

I'm far from being an expert, but I would think that if you follow the advice for 'introductions' in any decent cat book, then you shouldn't expect any more problems than normal in these circumstances.
I liked The Perfect Kitten. |

Re: Thinking of moving, Introducing kittens to a dog & cat
Hiya, i brought the dog who they will be hopefully living with peacefully in a few months, upto our house today. I kept the kittens in there transport box, so they knew they had some safety. The dogs not too bothered he looked at hem a few times and thats about it, he is more likely to ignore them than anything.
But norman one of the kittens didnt take his eyes off the dog and was hissing and growling (ive never heard a cat growl before). I just let them se each other and smell each other for about half an hour to 40 minutes then took the dog home. I noticed after that normans nose where its normally skin colour, was all white, is this something to do with stress? he was fine as soon as the dog went and after an hour or so his nose went back to the normal colour we were a bit worried about it though |
