found a kitten

there has been a ginger kitten on our estate for a few wks and to day it came to my door, so i put some cat food in a bowl and he had the lot, he was sat eating for a good 30 mins. his belly is now very fat!! could he have worms? he has a very thick caot and is a very intact little man! i would say he was about 6 months.
i dont know what do do, do i let him back out? (he is very happy on my bed at the mo). he didnt look like he had had a good meal for ages and the speed and amount he did eat made me think he hadnt either. he is so friendly and i have always wanted a ginger cat so my heart is telling my head what to do at the moment. so any advice would be great.

Re: found a kitten

Hi I would ask around to see if anyone is missing a kitten and then probably take him to the vet to see if he's been microchipped first.

Re: found a kitten

This sorta what happened with me and Tidbit

I brought her home and contacted all the vets, pounds, animal shelters in the area but after a few weeks no one was looking for her I kept her.

I also put up posters with just

8 weekish old kitten
street name that i found it on

Please contact me at phone number

I took her to the vets which looked her over confirmed her age, dewormed her and gave her her first road of shots.

We also had to rush and pick a name so they could file her!

Re: found a kitten

Hi

Think it would be an idea to take him to the vets for a check up and scan to see if chipped. If he isn't then you could get him vaccinated and wormed and some flea treatment. You could put up some notices in the area, at vets, and shops etc saying you found a kitten but don't give too detailed a description - make any enquirer describe the kitten they have lost!

Good luck - let us know how you get on.

Re: found a kitten

We got most of our cats that way! Isabelle was, according to a guy who chased her into our garden, vicious. She ran to me and jumped on my shoulder, purring. Marvin just wandered in the house. Esmerelda opened the door and made herself at home! We were too soft to throw them out and they knew it If you are looking for a new cat, I'd say it has found you.

Re: found a kitten

Chances are very high that he has a home and that someone is searching for him. Normally I'd say let him out, but if you have fireworks around where you are tonight then perhaps not, but do please get him scanned for a chip on Monday. If no chip, then a "found" ad in the local paper - and read the local paper regularly for "lost" ads too - and a poster or two in local shops. If none of those bring any result then after a week or two you can reasonably assume he is yours.

Liz

Re: found a kitten

i'm going to go against the idea that someone is looking for him.... if they cared that much he would be micro-chipped with a collar on and neutered before they'd let him out! i'd say check if he's microchipped etc and if not then he sounds much safer with you xxx ps good idea to keep him in because of the fireworks xx

ps sorry i sound angry it just upsets me that people can be so irresponsible...

though i appreciate what you are saying this isnt necessarily true.

I got my 6 month old Billy a week ago from the cpl and he is unneutered and unchipped. (he is booked in for these on friday) But if he managed to sneak out between now and then (he has tried!) and get lost does he deserve to be taken in and kept from me?

op I would say keep him in tonight because of the fireworks. and then tomorrow ring the vets and shelters to report him missing. and on monday get him scanned for the chip.
