Re: Petition to Ban Sale of Kittens from PetShops

i agree and disagree with this

yes some do not care about animal environments as they should but others do

i used to work in a local family run pet shop that sold kittens... they were always checked over wormed and defleaded with frontline

they were not sold to anyone under the age of 18. also they were sold with the proper advice (and were given a advice sheet aswell) and the food they had been weaned on and did their best to get the customer to buy the essentials and what they needed

you have to remember just because theres some bad ones out there , theres also the responsible ones out there

also they do have a licence to sell all kinds of animals just rodents and rabbits

my baby is from this pet shop and its not effected him one little bit

Re: Petition to Ban Sale of Kittens from PetShops

We actually got our first cat from a pet shop, one random day out when i had a day off school.....we'd gone too one shop and seen a kitten in a cage and i asked for it and pleaded, so my dad went to ask and unfortunatly someone had already bought it and was picking it up later that day. Then i asked [and pleaded again] if we could go to a pet shop called 'paws and claws' so my dad gave in and i still remember as we pulled up outside, you could see into the back of the shop and i saw kittens looking out.

They were kept in a backroom, in a fairly large cage, 3 kittens....2 brothers and thier sister. They had water, food and a litter tray in thier cage and the lady in the place seemed to know alot of stuff about them and gave us tons of advice as we were first time owners.

The cat in question is now 16years old, we got our second cat from a family friend but lost him in 97 at 2 years old, then we got our next one from a rescue center, then our 4th from a vets i did work experience at but she died of cancer 18months ago now and our two recent additions were from a rescue center and they were almost forced on us, as this center couldnt afford home visits and there was an illness spreading round the place, so we were told that we could take them right then.....so we did

Smudge and Staysee

Yes, you both have a very valid point which I have agreed with further up this thread
Unfortunately the *good, responsible* pet shops are in the minority.
Also part of the reasoning behind the petition is to discourage the deliberate breeding of moggies for a quick buck. If people can't sell to pet shops they may be more inclined to neuter their pets.
It's a very real and sad fact that some independant rescues just cannot cope with the vast amount of cats and kittens that need rehoming in the current financial climate. My own local rescue which I have taken unwanted/stray cats to in the past has just closed it's doors permanently because they have been so overwhelmed and are fed up of having cats dumped on their doorstep and literally nowhere to put them.
Now my nearest rescue is about 30 miles away
The *big* rescues such as CPL and RSPCA aren't faring much better although they do have the funds to help them through this tough time and will survive.
Unfortunately it will be too late for the many cats who will not
