Purely or pets at home own make food?

Hi,

I am going to p@h later today and have decided to get gizmo a different food. Her iams is running low and I heard bad things about it.

I have narrowed it down to either purely or the pets at home own make. I choose these 2 for their ingredients and price!
does anyone have experience of these 2 and have a reccomendation between one or the other?

(I am talking dry food at the moment as she still has plenty of hilife and felix to get through)

thanks!

Mine used to eat Purely kitten (40 % meat) but now won't touch it so they are on the 60 % stuff, its a bit more expensive but at least they are eating it.

My eldest cat is on Purely, she loves it! Has helped her lose a bit of her extra weight too, and she's looking much trimmer now she's on that and we've cut out the dry food.

Re: Purely or pets at home own make food?

I've been thinking about this as more variety for Timmy as Tesco have changed their luxury food (i get the odd tins and pouches of Hi-Life and Tesco Finest and Nature too - Tesco Nature foil trays not the pouches as the trays are 60% and pouches are 14%) and the flavours that have been removed from Tesco Luxury are in the Purely food so I might get the odd box and mix them up a bit for him or buy the loose tins

Hi, would be interested how you get on as I was looking at these two for kitten food. I've gone from whiskas (which I now know is very low in meat%!) to Hills but they only eat when I mix cooked chicken into it. I don't want to keep doing this as chicken is supposed to be a treat.
Forgive me if I'm wrong but is Purley also PAHs own make but a more premium food than their normal one?

Is it ok to mix and match brands? Cats must get bored eating the same food like we would!

Re: Purely or pets at home own make food?

well I went and got a mixture of the small bags of food in the end as I couldnt make my mind up! the cats will soon let me know which they prefer

however one thing i have noticed is that the adult and kitten foods are more or less the same. with maybe just a couple of things being in a slightly different order on the ingredients list. so does this mean it doesnt really matter if i get billy (kitten) and gizzy(adult) the same food?
in fact the purely pouches are idential for kitten and cat except the kitten ones have sunflower oil in too.

another thing i noticed is that the p@h and purely foods have very similar ingredients but the p@h tend to have extra stuff added. is it like human food where the less ingrediants means the better the food is likely to be for you?

would of been so much easier and cheaper to of lived in a world of blissfull ignorance and feeding whiskas lol

Re: Purely or pets at home own make food?

I know what you mean about living in ignorance!
I went to PAH at the weekend and brought their own PAH complete food but I am just using up some whiskas I had left when I swapped their food before as one had a dodgy tum.
Now they are really love it! But I'm not buying it anymore now I know it is only 4% meat! I have also brought some applaws as they like real chicken and a women at my local cattery recommended it.
Couldn't get the purely one for my 2 as it is a pate and they wouldn't like that.

On a diff subject, why does PAH sell so much more stuff for dogs than the do for cats!?

Yeah I have to agree with you there, everything seems to be aimed at dogs - they always have really cr*ppy toys in there too! lol
