Re: Kitten Vaccinations

None of my kits leave me without the full FeLv Injections, i no then i have done my best to make sure they are healthy and protected b4 they leave me
it is a fast growing problem in cats/kittens, the vets say it can kill if they contract it!!

Yeah but i have read somewhere that the vaccination itself can be dangerous to them???

Re: Kitten Vaccinations

I was advised not to have lukeimia vaccine, and if i did to get in done in the leg, rather than the neck, due to the risk of them developing it. a cat can live without a leg, but not without a neck....

it is up2 the individual as 2 weather or not they have the FeLv, all mine have had theirs with their main Injections in the neck as 1, including 55 kittens in total, with No Ill effects at all, then its up2 the new owners when their boosters r due??

Re: Kitten Vaccinations

I no longer do the FeLV jab, although we always used to. The reason I won't allow it any more is this: A few years ago, one of our queens, Cacao, was given her annual booster and a few days after that, a lump the size of a golf ball appeared on the vaccine site, we rushed her straight into our vets. Our own vet at the time thought the worst and thought it was cancer, she was booked in for an emergency operation, the lump was removed and sent off for biopsies. Fortunately, the lump was not cancerous, but the only thing we could think of that caused this was the vaccination because nothing else in her life had changed. A few months after that, one of her daughters, Sambuca, was given her annual booster, again, with FeLV, and again a few days afterwards, a lump appeared, much smaller than her mothers, and in Sami's case, antibiotics were required to get rid of the lump. Now this was not simply a case of a bad batch of vaccines as it was a different batch altogether. Within the following 2 years, 2 more girls from this line (with our kitten families, not us) had the exact same problem, again, within days of having the FeLV vaccine administered. One of those girls needed a huge lump removed and sent of for biopsies, the other was treated with antibiotics. After it happened to us with Sami and Cacao, I started doing my own research on the FeLV jab and was horrified by what I had read especially regarding Vaccine Associated Sarcomas. So due to my own experiences and due to the research I did at the time, my mind was made up that they would never have it. At the end of the day, all of our own cats are negative tested for FeLV so our kittens are all from negative tested parents.

Re: Kitten Vaccinations

This is worrying and is the first I've heard of it. We routinely give our cats both and have had no problems but we're vaccinating five next week and I'll certainly ask the vet about this...although I'm sceptical that they'll tell the full truth if it's going to cost them money.
