There should be a law out!

Ive had 2 cats been run over and died within 10months its horrible to go through such pain!
They should have a law out.. if you run over a cat then the police gets involved or something They do with dogs! Why not cats?!

I 10000% agree. Its disgusting that drivers can hit a beloved cat and not have to inform anyone.

Don't have to do it with dogs either now! At least thats what I was told a couple of weeks ago when I did emergency stop to avoid hitting one!

Over here you have to. Its still law. We still pay yearly licences on our dogs. But i have said for a few years now that cats should be included. Its disgusting that people can hit cats in RTA's and not have to tell anybody

Re: There should be a law out!

Same over here, if u hit a dog you have to either report your self (which likely people who dont care wouldnt, but i DEFO would). Or someone who saw it reports your number plate etc.

Re: There should be a law out!

I totally agree with all of you but.......

if they made it law about cats then everything would change for them. From what I have been told cats are known as semi-feral. This means for anyone letting their cats outside who poop in other peoples gardens, you could get done for that then. Not fair I know but I'm pretty sure that is the reason for cats in RTA's not being reported. As usual the law stinks!!

Kalipha is on a distinguished road
Re: There should be a law out!

Sadly some cats do not have much road sense and do bolt out right in front of cars. I've seen a cat killed, bystander, no my car nor my cat, and the cat was under a parked car and just ran out. Poor driver was really shaken, poor cat too of course.

Main difference with dogs is if you hit a dog in the street your first thought is "where is the owner?!" and there'd be a reasonable case to be brought against the person that let their dog just wander the streets. While ever cats are considered independant and 'feral' enough to wander around rounds on their own they'll be treated differently. It's sad but if you let an animal walk around on roads by itself you have to expect to lose some to road accidents. It's not always the result of lazy or cat-hating motorists. A small furry bullet can be hard to miss when it zooms in front of you. The law you talk about, what would it say and how would it reduce the number of cats killed on roads?
