I feel a bit guilty

Hi,
Didn't know where to put this but, it is kind of about my kitten.

7 months ago, i lost Tom, who was very special to me.
As you can tell by my name on the forum, i was his Sissy (short for sister).

Now we have Tilly, i'm afraid to get too close to her. She's great and she loves me. But, i don't love her as much as i love tom. Is this wrong?
Also, i'm not known as Sissy to Tilly as i feel i would be desecrating Tom's memory. But i would feel guilty if i was any kind of 'sister' to Tilly because all i could think about would be Tom.

Re: I feel a bit guilty

It's not wrong and you shouldn't feel guilty! Tilly is not taking over from Tom, he was a different cat that will always hold a special place in your heart. Now you have Tilly, not to replace Tom but to fill the hole that he left.

Bond with her, play with her and love her because she a kitten who wants to be loved!

Re: I feel a bit guilty

No, what you're feeling isn't wrong at all, don't worry

I still feel the same about my old dog - i'd had him since I was 5 years old and he died about a year and a half ago when I was 18, so he'd literally been like a brother to me and i've never had quite the same bond with either of my new dogs as I had with him, and I don't want that same bond with them - it was a special one.

It will get easier over time, just as long as you show as much affection to Tilly as you did to Tom, everything will be fine don't worry

Re: I feel a bit guilty

Thanks.
After reading your posts i got thinking. You're right, i won't have that bond with Tilly, but i am gonna give her a nickname which is gonna be 'little sister'. That is what she is like after all.
