How to clean your cats ears?

HI all!

Ive noticed that Bo's got this black "gunk" in her ears..Not deep, its around the little folds on the ear.
Do i clean it or do i leave it?
And is it safe to clean the ear with a earbud and some luke warm water?

Bo dont like me "probing" her ear... or me cleaning her ears..I tried last night but i could not hold her down..she did not like it at all...so i left her.

Any advice?

If she doesnt like it then I would leave it personally, you dont want to upset her. If she does begin to let you try, then lukewarm water should remove it. But never use buds near a cat as they can move suddenly and cause injury.

Does she have any other symptoms? Our eldest cat Ginger had canker and we only realised because his ears became black. Here are the symptoms;

Frequent scratching

Excessive shaking of the head

Scratching when the ear flap is gently rubbed against the ear

Reddish-brown or black waxy ear build up

Bad odour

If she has any of these symptoms then get her checked as it can cause deafness and other problems.
