Discovered where Bertie goes ...
The past couple of weekends Bertie has practically disappeared and I've worried in case he's been hit by a car. He used to sit in the little boy next door's porch a lot and I'd know exactly where to find him, but he seems to have gone off children. I was speaking to an elderly man who lives in the old folks' home nearby (but over an enormous wall with a steep drop at the other side) and it turns out that this is where Bertie is going. He's transferred his affections from kids to oaps for reasons known only to himself. Anyway, I'm glad to know he's going somewhere safe. It's always interesting to find out what they're up to when they've gone awol.

Well, you think they're being mysterious but often they're pootling around doing nothing in particular just a garden or two away, asserting their independence I suppose.

Re: Discovered where Bertie goes ...
Though of course he might be in the same place throwing a deaf ear. Mine do that sometimes. If I'm really worried about one of my cats being out too long, I walk round the block calling them. They wouldn't dream of coming up to me, but then when I get home and open the back door, there they are, so they've obviously heard me and it's reminded them they have a home. That's worth a try. (I used to have a lovely old cat called Tomasina and she would disappear onto the local allotments for a fortnight at the height of summer and just live off the land, being a phenomenal hunter. Then I'd go calling her, which could be embarrassing because the blokes with the allotments thought you were trying to nick their veg, and she'd decide to come home after I'd wandered the length and breadth of what was mostly an overgrown wasteland.)
