vet mistake advise

Hi hope somebody can help us..we took our cat to the vets today with a tooth problem and now he is dead because they admitted that they had left a small peice of foam in his mouth and forgot to take it out..
they said they are sorry and it was there mistake and have no bill to pay..
but when my wife asked to see him to say goodbye they told us that he had already been sent for cremation and we would get his ashes in a week..
we feel that sorry is not good enought and would like to take action but dont know where we stand legaly.any help would be grateful....

Re: vet mistake advise

That is a dreadful thing to have happened. I'm sure you'll get some good advice on this site tomorrow when more people are online, but in the meantime have you tried googling something on the lines of "veterinary negligence remedies uk". The RCVS website gives some information, though of course they are the vets' own professional body so are bound to have a bias, but their website could be a starting point.

that in itself is appaling, sounds fishy too,as if they wanted a quick cover upthey should never have taken it upon themselves to make that decision.im assuming he was under a aneasthetic at the time, and didnt wake up
