Re: vet mistake advise
Sounds dodgy to me, but I know we are only human & mistakes can happen, so sorry for what you are going through.
Have you asked what compensation they are willing to offer? I think mine would be hunting around looking for that perfect kitten for me & offering free shot's etc.To make ammends. Gosh what you must be going through ![]() |

Re: vet mistake advise
I would suggest citizen advice and a solicitor for some legal advice.
Then a complaint in writing to the practice followed with a complaint to the BVA, you'll probably have to go through all the right channels before you can make a claim for compensation. I dont know though, which is why i suggest CAB first. So sorry this happened to you. xx

Re: vet mistake advise
Hi,
Just read your post and firstly wanted to say im so sorry for your loss. I work in a vets and there is no way that we would send an animal off for cremation without checking with the owner first! Did you sign anything when you dropped him off in the morning?? Doesnt seem to add up, if he died under the anaesthetic why did they say all was ok and he was sleeping?? Sorry if i have missed something there? Sounds like something isnt right and i would be back on the phone asking questions. What type of anaesthetic did they use? who was monitoring it? what time they anaesthatised him? When he died, before or after they performed the operation. there should be full notes that you should be able to request to see, ask to see them! Also, find out the local pet crematoriums or ask which one they use and see if he has already been cremated, if not ask for the body back! We have 1 collection a week and we are a fairly busy practice. again im really sorry for your loss rach x |

Re: vet mistake advise
You really need to seek legal advise!
I am guessing that by them waivering the bill that they are admiting responsibility! There is a procedure to follow when lodging a complaint against a vet! I cannot remember where of what is is but check onthe RCVS website and you should find the information! RE: How to file a complaint against a vet! Be warned though! They all p*ss in the same pot! I wish you the very best DT have found the link! may be useful http://www.rcvs.org.uk/Templates/Int...ntNodeID=89644 Last edited by oldDoubletrouble; 20-10-2009 at 05:25 PM.. |

Re: vet mistake advise
Surely the RCVS have both a regulatory and a representational function and therefore cannot be truly neutral? I agree with Double Trouble's view (they all p*** in the same pot!) but this isn't really the place to get into a debate about the veterinary profession so let's agree to differ.

Re: vet mistake advise
Sorry to post again and i know its already been said, i just wanted to say, if i were you i would definitely be getting onto the vets tomorrow morning, and demand they tell you which crematorium your cat was taken to, and there number. Im sure they HAVE to tell you this. Then you could ask for his body to be returned, or you might have to pick him up i dont know. Sorry if its not what you want to do, I'd also understand if you just wanted to let him go rest now instead, just giving you my opinion x
