No they don't Neil.

Not sure where you are but I would definatly phone your vets in the morning to find out where he has been taken.

Also if you can face going in there. Visit and ask for a copy of his medical notes. Get them to print them off. I would do this with them unaware that you are going in so they cannot change anything. ie if you phoned and forewarned them.

Re: vet mistake advise

i can only echo what everyone else has said, that is dispicable practice of a vet. I am extremley sorry to hear about your cat and your experience of everything . I would too call the CAB and see where you stand.

Re: vet mistake advise

Sorry to hear about your cat, how awful for you. I would definitely look at taking this further as that surely isn't acceptable.

Re: vet mistake advise

I'm really sorry to hear about your cat. I agree with everyone else - it sounds very suspicious. I've never heard of a bit of foam being left in either a person or animal and killing them on the spot. If this was the case there wouldn't be so many humans going around suing doctors for having sponges etc left. I would definitely get in touch with CAB - would the RSPCA be able to suggest what you could do? Only reason I'm asking is because they surely know all the legalities. Good luck with this.

I would call the crematorium and try and get it stopped firstly.

Then make an official complaint to your own vets and then the national college of veterinary surgery.

I would also like a previous poster said speak to one of these no win no fee lawyers.

They are responsible for the death of your pet and the best they can do is say you do not have to pay the bill ??

Of course you shouldn't have to pay the bill and you should also be looking at some form of compensation.

Plus the vet involved needs to be punished to stop this happening again!
good post Cat Crazy, i agree , they were in an awful hurry to have him cremated, must have something to hide they had no right to do that without your permission.
They must have a governing body and a complaints procedure, this absolutely disgraceful and underhanded.
I am very sorry for your loss under such tragic circumstances,i feel for you and your family.

No, there are special pet crematoriums.

That speed is just too fast. I suspect the cat is actually still at the vets in one of their "body bags". Definitely a complaint, get it in in writing right away.

Amd I am sorry about your poor cat

Re: vet mistake advise

I am so sorry to hear this- what a horrible shock for you and your family.
Please try and get it all in writing- if you intend to take this further you will need to have everything logged.
I suggest that you write to the practice manager- or head vet and list everything that happened (as you understand it) keep a copy of the letter for yourself.
See what the reply is and take it from there.
If you are going to make a formal complaint to RCVS then you will need all this paperwork.
It's a miserable process to go through, especially when you are in shock and grieving, but a lot of the time nothing gets done because people think about this when it's too late to do anything.

Re: vet mistake advise

God how horrible

Our vets only take them 1-2 times a week aswell to be cremated and i had to sign forms to say i wanted it. The cremitorium place also phoned me up to sorry how sorry they were and what did we want (i.e casket/box) and a single cremation and have only her ashes or have agroup (which was cheaper) and get whatevers ashes.

Where abouts are you maybe we could help find pet cremitoriums in your area to ring up if you dont want to speak to the vets themself.

It does sound like they are covering up, surely he shouldve been with someone untill he was awake and then placed in the cage with regular check ups that what my vets does.

I cant imagine how your feeling def take it futher and complain e,t.c they should be allowed to get away with doing that to your pet.xxx

Re: vet mistake advise

Very very sorry to hear about this, hope you are managing as best as possible.

Like alot of people have said, i smell a rat with them deciding to have him cremated. Im shocked that they thought they could do that and not have any comebacks from it. Dont back down, in my opinion they dont have a leg to stand on, for all they knew you mightve wanted to bury him in your back garden. Do you mind telling us which vets it was?

Im appalled. Id also write to the papers if i were you, when something happens like this they should fully own up and take responsibility. Not brush it under the carpet, im glad people know about it through the forum though.

Even if they are being honest, the decision what happens to him is yours, how dare they decide for you. They should have been on the phone to you immediately, and asked where you wanted him to go.

Again, my thoughts go out to you. x
