Re: Cat Insurance

Thankyou, has anyone had any experience with healthy pets .co.uk?
They do lifeloong cover and seem to have good reviews.

Re: Cat Insurance

my 2 kittens are insured with Tesco insurance but not sure who underwrites it. They have diff levels of cover and pay £15 a month for the higher cover. There was a 10% discount when I did it online..

Healthy pets dont do lifelong cover. They do per condition only. Be careful.

Re: Cat Insurance

Oh really?
It says they cover ongoing illnesses up to the policy limit for each condition... policiy limit is 5k
is this not adequate?

This is so confusing!

Re: Cat Insurance

It can boggle you a bit! but honestly its only confusing if you are basing everything on the price. Most names ie, Argos, Tesco, Sainsbury's are large chains branching out to the pet market just to get a slice of the pie. They are not well established pet insurers who know their stuff and cover accordingly. Ignore the cost for a minute, and read the policy cover carefully. Go for lifecover, and vets costs around £1000 (should be more than enough hopefully). If you live in a busy area, you may want to pop theft cover or accidental death.

Personally I would go petguard or petplan all the way, their feedback speaks for itself

No, this means they will cover a condition up to £5,000. Once you reach that amount, the condition is excluded and you cannot claim for it anymore.

True lifetime cover will give you a pot of money per year. Each year when you renew you get the same amount for any claims during the year. Once you start claiming and for as long as you stay with your lifetime insurer then conditions you're claiming for are not excluded.

Hope this helps.

Re: Cat Insurance

Hi Guys,

This is what it says on their site

Quote:
Am I covered for ongoing conditions?
YES - Healthy Pets will cover you for ongoing conditions that start after the inception of your policy, up to the maximum benefit of your policy (£1000, £3000 or £5000) subject to you renewing your policy with us and premiums being paid up to date. See the Pet Policy Benefits for more details.

Do you cover pets for their lifetime?
We will cover your pet for its lifetime up to the maximum amount of benefit for each separate condition. (£1000, £3000 or £5000) subject to you renewing your policy with us and premiums being paid up to date.
Does this mean that it will only pay up to £5k for each condition then -(high cover is what I would take)

rather than 5k per year?

I dont go on price at all, I want whats best for my cats and I dont want the stress of them not getting the proper treatment.
I want to go with a specialist pet insurer so I agree with you there - Could you clarify if the above is correct?

Thankyouuuuuuuu

Re: Cat Insurance

To me it says that for each condition there is a maximum benefit, depending on which cover you go for ie.£5000= bigger maximum benefit.

But tbh I would phone and get it clarified. All insurers make their small print as clear as mud!

As a rough guide, a lifetime policy covering every eventuality, and vets bills up to £4000 should cost around £8 per month for a pedigree, a little less for a moggie.

Really, someome should tell Petplan that then!!! Their pedigree premiums are way in excess of £8!!! I know someone who bought a kitten with free 4 weeks cover and the kitten developed a problem in that 4 weeks. They took out a full policy within the agreed time span and Petplan continued the cover as they said BUT they treated the policy as a new policy in respect of the excess so my friends had to pay £65 excess under the free cover period then another £70 for the continuation of the claim under the "new" policy!!!!! They now pay around £16 a month to cover that kitten. They would love to move but if they do so then they lose all cover for any illness even remotely connected with the initial claim.

I have several of our insured under Petguard and the total monthly premuim is only around £9 each for the pedigrees.
