The bill seems steep to me too, but I really am not sure. Vet fees seem to have increased dramatically over the past few years. The total bill for Jasper was £99.15 we had a consultation fee at £58.01 as it was out of hours.

This one seems a bit steep to me as I had a consultation and a prolapse operation on a Sunday and the bill came to £92.

Re: Vets

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss

It seems that a lot of vets only care about making money. I've been checking vets in my area for when Xito comes home. As i was asking about neutering fees for when he is older, in one of the vets they charge £50 at 5 months, £70 at 6-12months or £85 1 year or older

All other vets i asked have one price for males and one for females just as you said, it's only this one i find it quite strange
I'm definitly not going there with Xito, if they do that for neutering imagine how they're like with everything else.

Re: Vets

Unfortunatly on most vets i visited i feel they're pushing a sale for all kinds of services. I'm just looking for a check up for when i bring Xito home, want to get to know a good local vet if i need it in the future and find out prices for neutering.

I understand that it is a business, but it does worry me that they're more concerned about making money than in the wellfare of the animals.

I am actually pleased someone agrees with me, it was ridiculous, I was told on the phone the consultation would be £90 something (can't remember now) plus treatment as it was out of hours. The cost didn't matter he needed a vet.

I still have the receipt in front of me: -

Consultation before euthanasia out of hours £58.01
Euthanase Cat £19.48
Cremation Cat £21.66

I did question the bill because I was expecting £90 something plus, well it wasn't treatment but you know what I mean.

I was told if they have to euthanise the fee is broken down as owners have gone through enough.

It seems to me they can charge what they like.

Sue
