Question One clingy kitty

Hi everyone, yes its me again lol, sorry about all the questions about mabel, But I just need to know shes ok.

So shes over her illness now, having normal poo's, no sickness, shes eating like theres no tomorrow. But shes being really really clingy with me and my partner, shes not happy unless shes literally stuck to us. Yesterday and today she doesnt want to play she just wants constant fuss, and if we go out of the room she curls up in her cat carrier.
Shes alert and is acting ok, but shes just really clingy, when shes not sleeping on us shes sitting watching us. Its so sweet, but I cant help feeling shes a bit lost, shes so young.
Is this normal??

The vet estimated her at about a month old, so I was thinking is she missing her mother? She just wants to sleep, and sleep on us. But like i said shes healthy and bright and alert otherwise. Is this just her settling in still? she has been through a rough ride with her illness.

Thanks in advance
Nula

Re: One clingy kitty

Sorry Nula I have not read your initial posts re this kitten.

Are you saying this kitten is a month old? OMG... at one month old, she would normally be sticking like glue to her mother, and still suckling from her, till weaned, and after that comfort suckling for another month.

If I have a hand feed kitten of that age, it goes where I go...

It needs a mother, and if that job is yours, then you have to instinctively mother it..

Have you weaned her? Is she still on a proper kitten milk? She still needs very regular feeds at this age.

Re: One clingy kitty

Well we were told by the cat rescue centre that she was 8 weeks. But after her illness the vet said it was more likely she was only a month old.
So what do we need to do? Shes able to eat her food, she just wants lots of it. What shall we do to help her? She has a bottle of whiskas milk that we bought yesterday. What else can I do?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Nula

Re: One clingy kitty

This forum seems to be full to overflowing of people being told by vets their kittens are only 4 weeks old, including to people who bred said kittens themselves and know for a fact they're not. They seem to base it off nothing but size which isn't really the best indicator.

Re: One clingy kitty

I am glad Mable is feeling better.

Wth regards to the clinginess if you think about it from Mabels point of view she is now in a big scary world where everything si new to her so she just wants to have comfort from someone and that happens to be you her mummy.

It is pretty normal and she will get bolder as time goes by.

Is she eating normally now?

Re: One clingy kitty

If she is only a month old then all she will be doing is sleeping and eating (and poohing of course) as she is growing really quickly.

If you are concerned about how much sleep she is doing then give the vets a quick call in the morning and they will be able to advise you.

I'm off to see piccies of Mabel as I'm sure I saw some earlier

Re: One clingy kitty

A Vet can usually tell the age of a kitten, very young ones at least, by the teeth. Back teeth, as with children, come through later than the front ones.

Also kittens under 6 weeks will have blue eyes. In moggies, that starts to change to green at 6 weeks.

Personally I dont like using Supermarket kitten milks, I much prefer the Royal Canin Baby Milk, Cimicat, or any of those, which I know to contain all that is needed. BUT... I dont use them when a kitten is over 6 weeks and weaned.

Water and good food is far better..

UPDATE

I have just looked at Mabels photos.. she most certainly on those photos is 7 - 8 weeks. She may have lost weight due to her illness, hence she may have resembled a 4 week old kitten, in weight.

Re: One clingy kitty

Effie is exactly the same as your kitty. She's around 12 weeks now and is less clingly/cuddly, but she was just like your kitty when we first got her, when we think she was around 6 weeks old.

Now, she likes to just be in whichever room we are in, she's not always wanting to sleep or cuddle, but she does want to be near us.

I think this is just normal, at the end of the day they are still babies and just want as much attention as possible.

I'm pretty sure your kitty will get more adventurous and playful as she gets older and more settled in with you. That's what we've found with Effie, anyway.
