Cat farm???

Bit odd this.....

I had a phone call last night from a friend, and while we were catching up he was telling me about how his friend (she got a cat from a small rescue place and they told her it was sprayed. A few months later her mum got ill and she left the cat with her neigoubor while she went to see her mum. To cut a long storey short the cat wasn't sprayed and got pregnant while she was away.)

She decided to sell the kittens for £50 each and got a call from this lady, she came over and offered her a price for all of them! When the my friend said that she wasn't sure about doing that the woman left. Then this woman started phoning her loads asking if she still had the kittens, she eventally decided to be rude and tell the woman where to go. The kittens all have nice homes now.

But I just can't stop thinking about how odd it is

Do you get kitten farms like puppy farms and if so do you think thats what the woman was doing?

Re: Cat farm???

What's a 'puppy farm'? If you are talking about people with large numbers of animals that breed - yes we have those. If you are talking about people with large numbers of breeding animals that are kept in poor conditions and overbred - not that I know of. They wouldn't last five minutes in the cat world - and the kittens would not survive.

Not sure why the woman would want all the kittens. If you're going to try to breed for profit, selling moggies isn't a good idea!

Re: Cat farm???

My best guess is a pet shop, though at £50 a kitten the price seems rather high for a pet shop buyer.

Re: Cat farm???

Yes sadly-kitten/puppy farms who see these wonderful creatures as commodities rather than beautiful creatures to be nurtured and cherished I don't know what this woman was up to but at least your friend had the good sense to tell her where to get off, she could have been from some kind of kitty experiment place-i mean usually if something doesn't sit right then it's coz it's not right, however unless your friend has info on this woman, enough to be investigated then no point in worrying or wondering as she did the right thing for her kitts and hopefully the next person/s this woman approaches may be able to get some more info and do something about it We as 1 cannot stop these things entirely but we can try and maybe make some small difference

Re: Cat farm???

Think about it. There must be breeders who breed a queen 3 times a year.

I know that these weren't pedigree but if an owner prices pedigree kittens under the going price then its pure profit for the person that buys the kittens.

Buy a batch of underpriced kittens and sel them on = profit

Re: Cat farm???

Around here the most ive seen a moggie selling for is £50 including kitten starter kit, So it does seem strange that she wanted to buy them for £50, Especially as in the newspaper kits are going for a mere £25each who knows, its baffled me for a start
