Re: registered?
Yes, registered cats have a full pedigree. They are either registered with FIFe, TICA or GCCF. There are rules & regulations that we have to abide by, like not breeding from a queen more than 3 times in 2 years, though personally I only breed mine once a year, if that. We have to keep the kittens til they are 13 weeks too. The pedigree also says wether you can breed from that particular cat or has to be neutered. If you hav'nt got a registered pedigree cat, then i'm affraid you can't register it yourself, the breeder has to do that before the kittens leave, if they've not done that then they are obviously not registered with any of the 3 governing bodies.

Re: registered?
Hiya BB - you may be interested in having a look at this:
TICA which is a global registering body whose acronym, spelt out fully is The International Cat Association - an example of a cat club in the UK which comes under the umbrella of TICA, is CatTica Alternatively, have a look at the GCCF or Governing Council of the Cat Fancy in the UK. You can find out more about registration from other sites too but these two are the first that sprang immediately to mind - hope this will do as a starter. All the best in your plans - hope things work out nicely for you. ![]() Kind regards Last edited by Rraa; 13-05-2008 at 02:04 PM. Reason: important detail missing - no added |

Re: registered?
Hi
I adopted 2 Maine Coon adults. The breeder had pink slips from the GCCF which she signed as having transferred ownership to me. I have to send them off to the GCCF with a £9.00 fee for each. One of the MCs was a breeding queen who has been neutered. On advice of the breeder I rang the GCCF to ask how i put her on the inactive register (accompanying letter). I don't want to show but I do want to register thme on the MC database maintained for breeders to check on genetics, breeding etc See here: PawPeds I have their pedigrees back to 3 generations from the breeder. Once they are on the database any breeder can see their lines way back and what progeny they have. if a MC lives to be 15 they then can be entered into the Methusalah Project which is a proxy for strong breeding lines With my first MC I did not bother - he was a pet. But I see why this database is useful to breeders so if I own the cat I can submit the pedigree with due acknowledgement in the pedigree names to the breeders. |

Re: registered?
Hi BB-imo yes it's important, especially for a breeding programme. It means you can research a possible stud/queens bloodline at least 5 generations back which can help you avoid some health/fault issues(if you want to breed a show cat) or even just a pet
To look at a cats pedigree shouldn't cost and to do this you look on the site for the breed of cat that interests you and their is usually a link for you to click onto that allows you to look at the cats pedigree etc, however none of this is relevant if your just seeing mad names of cats amd not understanding who they are,so research thoroughly and then you'll understand what your looking at and who the prefix's are, which will enable you to read the pedigree and understand the lines and the relevance![]() |
